The first race of the sidecars of the Isle of Man TT 2022 was overshadowed by a fatal accident in which newcomer Cesar Chanel lost his life.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shortly after the start of the 3-lap race, an accident occurred at Ago`s Leap.\u00a0 According to first reports, it is assumed that a following sidecar collided with the crashed sidecar, which resulted in a major fire.\u00a0 The race was stopped.<\/p>\n

The sidecar driver Cesar Chanel lost his life in the accident, the co-pilot Olivier Lavorel (35) was flown to the Aintree hospital, he was in critical condition.<\/p>\n

The team was competing in the Isle of Man<\/a> TT for the first time and impressed in qualifying with an average speed of 108.420 mph.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

As announced on Wednesday after the race, there was a mix-up in the identification of the fatality.\u00a0 According to initial reports, Olivier Lavorel was incorrectly reported as the fatality.\u00a0 However, he is in hospital seriously injured.\u00a0 The fact alone that this mix-up was possible does not bode well for his condition.<\/p>\n
