TAS Racing withdraws from road racing and concentrates on BSB

After winning the Senior TT race at the Isle of Man 2024 with Davey Todd, the successful TAS Racing team has announced that it will focus entirely on short track racing next year.  The withdrawal from road racing comes at a time of major change: In addition to the loss of rider Davey Todd to the FHO Racing BMW team, TAS Racing has decided to focus on Ducati motorcycles in the future.

Focus on the British Superbike Championship

From the 2025 season, TAS Racing will compete in the British Superbike Championship (BSB).  The team will rely on the Ducati Panigale V4 R in the Superbike class and the Panigale V2 in the Supersport category.

“This is an exciting thing for us,” explained Philip Neill, Team Principal of TAS Racing, during the Motorcycle Live trade fair.  “After so many years, you have to find new challenges and this one has come up due to circumstances.  But I can’t tell you how happy I really am.  Ducati is an iconic brand; I’ve always admired it from afar and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to see what we can achieve with it.”

Why the departure from road racing?

According to TAS Racing, the loss of Davey Todd to another team is not the reason for the withdrawal from road racing.  Instead, the decision is primarily due to the switch to Ducati.  The Italian brand has hardly had a strong presence in road racing to date, but has dominated the international short track championships.

In recent years, Ducati has won titles in almost all major racing series: three consecutive MotoGP championships, two out of three titles in the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) and the BSB Championship with Tommy Bridewell in 2023.

A look into the future

On the question of a return to road racing, Neill kept a low profile: “As they say, never say never.  It’s in our blood, we love this part of racing.  But now it’s time to focus on the British Superbike Championship.  We want to win this title.”

TAS Racing has celebrated many successes in other categories in the past, including Superstock and Supersport.  The team has also come close to the title several times in the Superbike class, but has not yet been able to achieve major success.  Now TAS Racing wants to put all its resources and efforts into the BSB in order to achieve this goal.

A new chapter with Ducati

The switch to Ducati marks a new chapter for the team.  The Panigale V4 R is regarded as one of the most powerful motorcycles in the BSB field.  With a strong focus on the short track format and experience from previous championships, TAS Racing now has the chance to establish itself among the top BSB teams.

Whether and when the team will return to the world of road racing remains to be seen.  But the focus for 2025 is clearly defined: TAS Racing wants to win the title in the British Superbike Championship.
