- Air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 V Twin with 156 Nm torque (115 lb ft)
- 101 mm round touchscreen display with RIDE COMMAND and new software
- Design elements borrowed from the Indian Chief of the 1940s
The presentation of the Indian Chief Vintage 2026 coincides with the 125th anniversary of the Indian Motorcycle brand. The model is a deliberate homage to one of the most formative eras in American motorcycle history and, according to the manufacturer, combines the historic character of the Chief with contemporary technology.
Design with roots in the 1940s
The Chief Vintage’s lines are clearly inspired by the Chief models of the post-war period. Particularly striking are the low-slung, valanced fenders, which were already a key design element in the 1940s. The silhouette of the motorcycle also remains deliberately slim, supported by a narrow rear frame and classic handlebar shapes.
At the front is the illuminated Indian Headdress fender attachment, a detail that has been closely associated with the brand for decades. Wire spoke wheels and a single solo seat further emphasize the classic look. According to the manufacturer, the seat has been ergonomically redesigned to offer more long-distance comfort without distorting the historical appearance.
The engine also blends in visually with the overall look. Black, unfinished cylinders combined with silver-painted cylinder heads and push rods echo the look of the aluminum surfaces that were common on historic Chief models. The unmilled cooling fins are deliberately designed to recall the handcrafted look of the era.
Drive and riding modes
Power is provided by the well-known Thunderstroke 116 V Twin. The air-cooled engine delivers a maximum torque of 156 Nm, which is equivalent to around 115 lb ft. According to the manufacturer, the power delivery is designed for smooth acceleration and should enable powerful acceleration even at low revs.
Three riding modes are available to suit different riding styles: Tour, Standard, and Sport. These change the throttle response and allow the engine’s responsiveness to be adjusted to personal preferences or riding situations.
Modern technology in a classic guise
Despite its historic appearance, the Chief Vintage is technically up to date. The central element is the 101 mm round touchscreen display with RIDE COMMAND system. The software, which has been revised for 2026, is said to reduce start-up and loading times by around 25 percent.
Another new feature is the Enhanced Navigation app. Destinations can be searched for on a smartphone using services such as Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps and transferred directly to the motorcycle. The system can be operated either via the handlebar controls or directly via the touchscreen.
The display offers various display options, including two instrument layouts, detailed vehicle information, and turn-by-turn navigation, provided that the relevant services are available in the respective country. When a smartphone is connected, music functions, telephony, and messages can also be controlled directly via the system. The connection is made via Bluetooth or USB, requiring the use of a compatible helmet communication system.
Accessories for everyday use and touring
Alongside the Chief Vintage, Indian Motorcycle is launching a coordinated range of accessories. These include highway bars, which are designed to provide protection at low speeds, and optional fairings to reduce wind turbulence and dirt.
A 450 mm high quick-release windshield provides additional wind protection without significantly altering the classic lines. Weatherproof vinyl saddlebags are available for everyday use, each offering more than 19 liters of storage space.
Other options include wider rider footboards, various handlebar grips, and enhancements for passenger use. These include a matching passenger cushion for the solo seat and a touring backrest designed to make longer rides for two more comfortable.

Classification
With the Chief Vintage 2026, Indian Motorcycle is clearly focusing on tradition and recognition. Information on prices and market availability varies by region and should be communicated through the respective national importers.
