Valentino Rossi helmet: Auction success in Valencia

The most recent auction during the MotoGP season caused quite a stir: A helmet signed by Valentino Rossi was auctioned off for 7,884 pounds (around 9,160 euros or 10,120 US dollars).  The auction was part of a larger charity campaign organized after the devastating floods in the Valencia region.  Numerous memorabilia from current and former MotoGP riders as well as historical items went under the hammer.  The proceeds went entirely towards the reconstruction of the region, which was hit hard by the disaster and in which over 200 people lost their lives.

MotoGP and the Red Cross: support for Valencia

MotoGP cooperated with the Spanish Red Cross to organize the auction.  Fans had the opportunity to bid for unique collector’s items, including Maverick Viñales’ 2013 Moto3 championship bike and one of the first Moto2 bikes.  The MotoGP season-ending event was also moved to Barcelona due to the floods, where Jorge Martin was celebrated as world champion in the premier class for the first time.

Auction highlights

The most expensive items at the auction included:

  • Maverick Viñales’ Moto3 championship bike (2013): Sold for 41,497 pounds (approximately 48,170 euros or 53,200 US dollars).
  • One of the first Moto2 bikes, donated by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta: 25,728 pounds (around 29,850 euros or 33,000 US dollars).
  • Yamaha VIP experience at the 2025 Buriram season opener: 15,147 pounds (approx. 17,580 euros or 19,400 US dollars).
  • Signed Valentino Rossi helmet: 7,884 pounds (approx. 9,160 euros or 10,120 US dollars).
  • Roby Starline helmet signed by MotoGP riders: 7,470 pounds (approx. 8,680 euros or 9,590 US dollars).
  • Aleix Espargaró’s racing suit: 6,640 pounds (approx. 7,720 euros or 8,520 US dollars).

Other notable items included a front fairing part from Dani Pedrosa’s first KTM bike, Fabio Quartararo’s helmet and gloves and his signed Alpinestars boots.  Historic items such as Alex Crivillé’s signed racing suit from his Honda days also went under the hammer.

Total proceeds: over 250,000 euros

The auction generated a total of 218,860 pounds (around 254,440 euros or 280,530 US dollars).  The high level of participation in the auction is also due to the large fan base:  MotoGP recorded its highest ever number of spectators last season.  The finale in Barcelona in particular attracted an exceptionally large number of fans and thus contributed to the awareness and success of the charity campaign.

Conclusion

The campaign underlines the strong solidarity within the MotoGP community.  The proceeds from the auction will significantly support the reconstruction in Valencia, while fans also had the chance to purchase unique memorabilia.
