Safety concerns about the Suzuki Hayabusa: Extensive recalls in the USA and Great Britain

Suzuki is currently the focus of safety discussions.  Particularly affected is the iconic Suzuki Hayabusa model, which has been the subject of recalls in the USA and Great Britain.

Brake problems in the USA: Suzuki Hayabusa 2024

In January 2024, Suzuki Motor Corporation issued an urgent sales stop for certain models of the 2024 Hayabusa and the Hayabusa 25th Anniversary Edition in the USA.  This was triggered by a potential risk due to an incorrectly tightened flare nut on the ABS hydraulic unit, which could lead to a brake fluid leak.  Such a leak could cause longer braking distances and thus increase the risk of accidents.  Around 993 motorcycles are affected, which corresponds to 13 percent of Hayabusas sold in the USA.

The affected models, which were produced between July 7, 2023 and November 28, 2023, can be identified by their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN).  Suzuki plans to inform affected customers by letter from February 5, 2024.  The repair work, which includes an inspection and tightening of the flare nut of the ABS hydraulic unit and an adjustment of the brake fluid level, will be carried out free of charge.

Recall in Great Britain: Brake cylinder problems on the 2021 Hayabusa

In the UK, the 2021 Hayabusa has been recalled due to concerns about the front brake cylinder.  The problem lies in a possible incorrect positioning of the passage for adjusting the brake fluid pressure in the brake cylinder, which can lead to an increased braking distance.  A total of 484 vehicles are affected by this problem.  Owners of affected motorcycles should contact their local Suzuki dealer, who will replace the front brake cylinder free of charge.

The two recalls apply to the American and British markets.  However, as motorcycles are usually produced in one factory for worldwide sale, other markets could also be affected.
