- NFC-based system integrated directly into the helmet
- Access to medical data without an app or login
- Already available in several Caberg helmet models
Motorcycle helmets have always been designed to protect riders from serious injuries in the event of a fall. With SOS Medical ID, Caberg is expanding this approach with a digital component that provides additional information in an emergency. The aim is to give rescue workers or first responders quick and easy access to important personal and medical data.

What’s behind Caberg SOS Medical ID
SOS Medical ID is a system integrated into the helmet based on an NFC microchip. It was developed by the Italian helmet brand Caberg, based in Bergamo near Milan. The chip is permanently installed in the helmet and is marked on the outside with a corresponding sticker.
The system can be used to store personal data, medical information, and emergency contacts. In addition, further information about the respective helmet model or authorized Caberg dealers can be accessed.
How access works in an emergency
In an emergency, simply hold an NFC-enabled smartphone to the designated area of the helmet. No special app, login, or additional codes are required. The stored information is displayed directly in the browser.
The following information can be accessed, among other things:
- Blood type
- Allergies and pre-existing conditions
- Medical information
- Emergency contacts
- Optionally, the last stored location
According to Caberg, this simple procedure ensures that first responders can access crucial information within seconds.

Compatibility with smartphones
The system uses NFC technology, which is already integrated into many modern smartphones. Apple devices support NFC from the iPhone 7 onwards. Most current Android smartphones also have this technology, provided it is activated in the settings. This is to ensure that access is possible in an emergency using standard devices.
Fixed integration instead of an accessory solution
Unlike external emergency tags or separate cards, SOS Medical ID is permanently integrated into the helmet. The helmet thus takes on an additional function beyond pure impact protection. With this approach, Caberg aims to bundle safety features where they are immediately available in an emergency.
Caberg helmets with SOS Medical ID
The system is currently available in several models in the Caberg range. These include:
- Drift Evo II: Full-face helmet in the sporty touring segment
- GP01: High-quality racing helmet with carbon outer shell
- Tanami: On-off-road helmet for travel and adventure use
- Trip: Flip-back helmet, which according to Caberg will be available from 2026
SOS Medical ID thus covers a wide range of applications, from sporty riding to touring. According to the manufacturer, further models could follow.
Classification of the system
SOS Medical ID is designed to support the rescue chain in the event of an accident, but it is not a substitute for medical care. The system is intended as a supplement to provide first responders and emergency services with relevant information more quickly. Whether and to what extent this results in real benefits depends on the specific accident and how it is used by responders.
