Especially in road racing, things didn’t look good in 2020 because of the global situation, but still the year ended with a positive news for John McGuinness.
Every year at the end of the year, the British government announces the list of people who will be appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the following year. On this list is John McGuinness, for his achievements in motorcycle racing.
MBE is one of three honors introduced by King George V during World War I to recognize people who helped in the war but were not at the front. In addition to “Member,” there is also Order of the British Empire and Commander of the British Empire.
Thus John McGuinness joins other motorcyclists who have already been honored with as MBE. Among them are greats like Joey Dunlop, Jonathan Rea, Dougie Lampkin, Maria Costello, Barry Sheen, Mike Hailwood and more.
With the award, there is also the chance to receive other awards in the coming years, or even be knighted.
