Statement from the BMW Head of Development

“The appearance of the new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure will cause a stir.  It is not only visually that the large GS differs significantly from its almost dainty-looking sister.  Never before have seating comfort, ergonomics and wind and weather protection been so harmoniously combined with precise handling, exceptional suspension comfort and smooth running.  The new BMW R 1300 GS Adventure has set itself the goal of redefining the benchmark for large adventure motorcycles.” – Christof Lischka, Head of Development BMW Motorrad.

Engine and chassis: Technical details

New two-cylinder boxer engine

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is powered by the revised two-cylinder boxer engine, which stands out due to its more compact design and is already used in the well-known R 1300 GS.  The engine has a displacement of 1,300 cm³, delivers 145 hp (107 kW) at 7,750 rpm and achieves a maximum torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm.

New chassis

The chassis of the R 1300 GS Adventure consists of a sheet metal shell main frame made of steel, which has higher rigidity values than the predecessor model.  This is supplemented by an aluminum trellis tube rear frame.  The EVO Telelever front wheel guide and the revised EVO Paralever rear wheel guide are designed to ensure greater steering precision and riding stability.

Electronic suspension adjustments

Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA)

The new electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) dynamically adjusts the damping and spring rate based on the driving mode and driving condition.  This enables automated load compensation and improves ride comfort and driving safety on different surfaces.

Adaptive vehicle height control

The adaptive vehicle height control adjusts the vehicle height fully automatically to the operating conditions.  An additional comfort option offers a further 20 mm lowering, which is particularly useful for shorter drivers.

Driving modes and assistance systems

Four riding modes

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure offers four riding modes as standard: Rain, Road, Eco and Enduro.  These modes enable adaptation to different riding conditions and optimize the riding experience both on the road and off-road.

Automated Shift Assistant (ASA)

The Automated Shift Assist (ASA) offers fully automated clutch actuation, which is designed to make driving more comfortable without compromising the dynamics of the shifting process.

Lighting and safety

LED technology

The R 1300 GS Adventure is equipped with the new full LED headlights in Matrix design as standard.  Additional LED auxiliary headlights and blinker lights integrated into the handguards complete the lighting concept.

Riding Assistant

The Riding Assistant offers optional functions such as Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (SWW) and the new Rear Collision Warning (RECW).

Storage space and accessories

Aluminum top case and suitcase

BMW offers a 37-liter aluminum top case and aluminum cases with a total load capacity of over 73 liters as accessories.  These have integrated magnetic couplings for USB charging sockets and lighting.

Fuel tank and windshield

The 30-liter aluminium fuel tank is robust and offers attachment options for luggage.  Wind and weather protection is supported by a large windshield and hand guards with extensions.

Variants and optional equipment

Model variants

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is available in different versions: the sporty basic version in Racing Red uni, the elegant Triple Black, the sporty GS Trophy and the exclusive 719 Karakorum option in Aurelius Green metallic matt.

Comprehensive range of optional extras

The optional extras include heated grips, keyless ride, Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with brake function and heated seats for the rider and passenger.

Conclusion

The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure comes with technical innovations and extensive customization options.  Its appearance is polarizing and will not suit every taste, but it offers a wide range of functions that can be an advantage for long-distance and adventure trips.
