After negotiations between Italian MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati over the extension of his contract have been difficult for some time, Doviziosos manager announced today that the contract will not be extended.

This means that they will part ways after eight years of collaboration.

The circumstances for a further cooperation do not fit, Dovizioso sees it that way. Therefore he does not want to continue riding for Ducati, even if he and the team would still become world champions this year. But there should be no bad blood.

The statement is not an announcement for the end of Andrea Dovizioso’s career. He wants to continue riding in MotoGP, but must admit that he has no other option for another team in the moment.

Where he will be riding is therefore still completely open. Virtually all the top class motorcycle racing places are already taken. Whether a place could still become free in the Aprilia team depends on whether Andrea Iannone’s doping ban remains in place. Cal Crutchlow has so far been considered a promising candidate for this place.

It is also still completely open who will take the second place in the Ducati factory team. It has already been announced that the Australian Jack Miller will join the factory team and will therefore take one of the two places. Johann Zarko announced some time ago that he also wants to change to the Ducati factory team.

However, Ducati will take its time in deciding on a Dovizioso successor. There were also rumours of a return of Jorge Lorenzo some time ago. These could be boiling up again now.
