Four decades have passed since Suzuki created the GSX-R series. Since then, the abbreviation GSX-R has stood for uncompromising sportiness and an impressive racing history within the Suzuki model family. The series alone accounts for 15 titles in the FIM Endurance World Championship. With the “40th Anniversary Edition” of the GSX-R1000R, the Japanese manufacturer is celebrating this milestone in the form of a special model that is technically based on the current generation of the supersport bike and supplemented with targeted upgrades.
Carbon Winglets and Revised Engine
The most striking feature of the anniversary version is the standard carbon winglets. They aim to improve stability at high speeds through additional downforce. Technically, Suzuki has also worked on the engine: the valve train has been optimized with enlarged exhaust valves and a wider timing chain designed to reduce friction. To increase durability, DLC-coated forged pistons and reinforced crankshaft bearings are used. A weight-reduced titanium silencer is also part of the package. Furthermore, Suzuki uses a lightweight lithium-ion battery in the anniversary GSX-R. The machine meets the Euro 5+ emission standard without compromising performance.
195 hp from nearly one liter displacement
The heart remains the well-known liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder with 999.8 cubic centimeters displacement. It produces 195 hp (approximately 143 kW) at 13,200 rpm and delivers maximum torque of 110 Nm. The Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing (SR-VVT), the Finger Follower Valve Train System, and additional top-feed injectors ensure smooth power delivery across the entire rpm range. This combination allows the engine to respond cleanly and powerfully at both low and high rpm.
Aluminum Bridge Frame and Brembo Brakes
The GSX-R1000R features the proven aluminum bridge frame for the chassis, which offers high torsional rigidity while keeping weight low. A strut-braced lightweight aluminum swingarm, fully adjustable suspension elements front and rear, and lightweight six-spoke aluminum wheels complete the chassis. Braking is provided by radially mounted Brembo monoblock brake calipers with 320-millimeter brake discs. The braking system works with a lean-angle-sensitive ABS that allows precise deceleration even during spirited riding. Fitted as standard is the Bridgestone Battlax RS11, a tire that can be used both on the road and on the race track.
Electronics Package with Six-Axis IMU
The “40th Anniversary Edition” comes with a comprehensive package of assistance systems that Suzuki brings together under the name S.I.R.S. (Suzuki Intelligent Ride System). The central element is a six-axis IMU from Bosch that captures all relevant riding data and enables lean-angle-sensitive control of individual systems. In detail, the electronics package includes three selectable ride modes (SDMS), multi-stage traction control with Lift Limiter and Roll Torque Control, an electronic ride-by-wire system, a bidirectional quickshifter, and the Motion Track Brake System. Additionally, there are Slope Dependent Control, Low RPM Assist, and an Easy Start System.
Three Colors for the Anniversary
The Suzuki GSX-R1000R “40th Anniversary Edition” will be available from summer 2026 in three color variants from authorized Suzuki dealers: Pearl Vigor Blue / Pearl Tech White, Candy Daring Red / Pearl Tech White, and Pearl Ignite Yellow / Metallic Mat Stellar Blue. The price is 19.990 Euro (approximately 23,190 US dollars) as a non-binding manufacturer’s recommended price ex-works, plus additional costs.
