Triumph Tiger 1200 with new Activ-Preload-Reduction: More comfort at low speeds

Triumph’s latest update to the Tiger 1200 series revolutionizes riding comfort with the introduction of Activ-Preload-Reduction, a technology that adjusts seat height in real time, depending on the speed and load of the motorcycle. Whether on-road or off-road, this update not only makes the Adventure motorcycle more versatile, but also more accessible to riders of a wide range of statures.

New feature for the Tiger 1200 model line

Triumph has released a fresh update in suspension technology for the Tiger 1200 series, which debuted in late 2021.  It is the so-called Active Preload Reduction, an addition to the already existing Showa semi-active suspension.

Goal: More riding comfort through lower seat heights.

The new technology is designed to reduce rear suspension preload as the speed of the motorcycle decreases.  This has the practical effect of lowering the seat height.  Seat heights of 850mm and 870mm are already available for the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer models.  In the case of the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer, the heights are 875mm and 895mm.  A special accessory seat option allows these positions to be lowered by an additional 20mm.  This results in a minimum seat height of 830mm for the GT models and 855mm for the Rally models.

Flexibility through the new function

With the introduction of Activ preload reduction, these seat heights can be lowered even further.  How much the lowering is depends on the total load of the motorcycle – including rider, pillion and luggage.  When the motorcycle is stationary, the seat height could be reduced by up to 20 mm.  For those interested, accessing this new feature is simple: just press the ‘Home’ button on the switch cube for one second.

What does the company’s management have to say about this?

Steve Sargent, Triumph’s Chief Product Officer, had this to say: “The new Tiger 1200 range is already a global success, attracting new fans and increasing Triumph’s share of this highly competitive market. This new feature can be enabled on the fly, lowering the centre of gravity at slower speeds, making it even more accessible, offering riders more confidence at slow speeds and better contact with the ground as they come to stop.”

Update for existing customers and a variety of uses

For current owners of a Tiger 1200 model, the new update will be available at the next workshop visit.  The Tiger 1200 series is designed to be the most versatile, agile and manageable large capacity adventure motorcycle.  Depending on the model, it is suitable for on-road or off-road riding.
