Upcoming Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS spotted

Triumph is apparently working on an updated version of its Speed Triple 1200 RS, according to recently surfaced information and spy photos.  These show potential innovations in terms of design and technical features that could represent an interesting development for the already impressive model.

Technical updates and design changes

The Speed Triple 1200 RS is known for its strong performance and striking design.  The latest information suggests that Triumph will continue to develop this model in order to make the machine even more specifically geared towards sporty use.

Adjustments to the suspension

One important innovation could be the introduction of a semi-active electronic suspension.  This system, which is indicated by cables visible on the shock absorbers, would allow the damping to be adjusted depending on the riding situation, which should enable improved performance on the racetrack.  This technology can already be found on the semi-clad Speed Triple 1200 RR and could now be integrated into the unclad RS version.

Changes to wheels and tires

Development prototypes show new 17-inch rims with a seven- and five-spoke design, fitted with Pirelli Supercorsa tires.  This represents a change compared to the Metzeler Racetecs previously used and indicates an optimization in terms of handling and performance.

Frame construction and ergonomics

The previous aluminum double-loop frame appears to be carried over with minor adjustments.  New clip-on handlebars replace the flat handlebars of the previous model, which indicates a sportier riding position.  Further adjustments may have been made to the rear frame and seating position to improve ergonomics for sporty riding.

Engine performance

Externally, the engine shows no significant changes.  However, there is a possibility that Triumph has reworked the 1160cc three-cylinder engine internally to achieve a slight increase in power.  The current engine is known for its power output of 178 hp.

Summary

The potential new features of the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS show that the manufacturer is keen to further optimize and improve the model specifically for sporting use.  The introduction of semi-active electronic suspension and adjustments to the ergonomics and tires could further improve performance and handling.  While official confirmations are still pending, the information available so far offers an interesting outlook on the possible future of the Speed Triple 1200 RS.
