BMW tests new F 450 RR as sporty A2 model

A fully clad sports bike prototype from BMW has been spotted in India, based on the new 450 platform. There are many indications that BMW is preparing a sporty F 450 RR for the A2 class in addition to the F 450 GS.
  • Fully faired sports bike based on the BMW F 450 GS
  • Inline twin cylinder with 48 hp (35 kW)
  • Market launch in 2027 at the earliest

Following the launch of the BMW F 450 GS, there are growing indications that BMW intends to make wider use of the new 450 platform. In addition to a possible naked bike, a sporty RR model is considered likely. Initial sightings of prototypes in India now provide concrete evidence of a BMW F 450 RR.

Prototype on test drive in India

In early 2026, photos of a heavily camouflaged super sports model being tested on public roads in India appeared for the first time. The machine was completely covered and clearly designed for sport. Striking features include the stub handlebars, high footrests, and an overall compact, forward-oriented seating position. Despite the sporty ergonomics, the test rider’s posture did not appear extreme, but rather beginner-friendly.

Several details clearly point to BMW origins. These include the brand-typical menu control dial on the left handlebar and the rear lights integrated into the rear turn signals, as is common on current BMW models. The lettering on the front brake caliper also suggests BMW.

Proximity to the BMW F 450 GS platform

Technically, the F 450 RR is said to be closely related to the upcoming BMW F 450 GS. The new platform is being developed in collaboration with Indian manufacturer TVS Motor Company, which has been a production partner for smaller BMW models for years. The earlier G 310 models and the electric BMW CE 02 were already produced by TVS.

TVS is also playing a central role in the new 450 generation. According to current information, the sports bike spotted in India uses the same inline twin-cylinder engine as the F 450 GS. The liquid-cooled engine is expected to develop a peak output of 48 hp (35 kW) at 8,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 43 Nm (31.7 lb ft) at 6,750 rpm from a displacement of 420 cubic centimeters. This would put the F 450 RR exactly within the A2 performance limit.

Chassis and equipment at sports bike level

Several high-quality components can be seen in the prototype photos. At the front, there is an upside-down fork in gold, and at the rear, a central spring strut with direct linkage to a double-sided swing arm. The five-spoke alloy wheels are visually reminiscent of those on the BMW G 310 RR, which was never officially offered in Europe.

The braking system relies on disc brakes on both wheels. Whether a single or double disc is used at the front is not clearly visible under the camouflage. Another striking feature is the sporty rear end with a split seat and integrated brake lights/tail lights in the turn signals.

BMW is likely to use the familiar TFT display with connectivity functions for the cockpit, even though this is not clearly visible in the photos. Media reports also assume that modern assistance systems such as traction control, riding modes, and a bidirectional quickshifter are planned. However, this information is based on expectations and has not been officially confirmed.

Easy Ride Clutch as a technical feature

A special feature of the new 450 engine generation is the so-called Easy Ride Clutch. According to BMW, this advanced centrifugal clutch is already being used in the F 450 GS and is also likely to be installed in the RR version. The system automatically engages when starting off and prevents the engine from stalling. At the same time, the engine braking effect is retained. The clutch lever is still there, but doesn’t have to be used in everyday riding.

Differences from the TVS Apache RR 450

Along with the BMW prototypes, there’s been some chatter about a TVS Apache RR 450, which is also supposed to be based on the 450 platform. TVS showed off the Tangent RR Concept at EICMA 2025. However, the test machine now spotted differs from the concept vehicle in several respects. Among other things, the distinctive twin headlights and the twin disc brake at the front are missing. These differences suggest a BMW F 450 RR rather than a TVS production model.

Market launch and classification

There is no official information about a BMW F 450 RR as yet. As things stand, it can be assumed that BMW could unveil the sporty 450 at EICMA in November 2026 at the earliest. A market launch would then be realistic for the 2027 model year.

The known key data for the BMW F 450 GS, which has a ready-to-ride weight of around 178 kg (392 lbs) and a starting price of around €7,220 ($7,850), serves as a guide. Whether the F 450 RR would be priced above this remains to be seen.

With a sporty A2-compliant RR variant, BMW would round off its own portfolio at the lower end and offer a small supersport model for the first time since the G 310 RR. It remains to be seen whether and in which markets the F 450 RR will actually be offered.

What does this mean for me as a motorcyclist?

For motorcyclists, the possible BMW F 450 RR suggests that the range of sporty A2 motorcycles will become broader and more technical in the future. A fully faired sports bike with 48 hp (35 kW), modern electronics, and comparatively everyday-friendly ergonomics would close the gap between classic entry-level models and significantly more powerful super sports bikes. This is particularly relevant for riders who value sporty design and chassis but do not want to switch to higher performance classes for licensing or practical reasons. At the same time, it remains to be seen how accessible the price, seating position, and maintenance costs will actually be, as these factors will ultimately determine whether such a model will prove convincing in everyday use or remain a niche product.
