ZXMoto made its debut at EICMA 2025 with a broad model portfolio. What was striking was that many of the motorcycles on display were very reminiscent in design and concept of models from other Chinese manufacturers such as Loncin, QJ Motor, and Kove. This raises the question of the extent to which technology, production resources, and development resources are shared between brands—a phenomenon that is not uncommon in Chinese motorcycle manufacturing, but also causes confusion when it comes to positioning new brands.
Super sports bike as a flagship: the ZXMoto 820RR
The presentation focused on the 820RR – a super sports motorcycle with a newly developed three-cylinder engine and 819 cm³ displacement. According to ZXMoto, the engine was developed in-house. The motorcycle is built around an aluminum frame and uses lightweight components to achieve a power-to-weight ratio of approximately 1:1.
Internally, the development is known as “Project 299,” which refers to the target speed of 299 km/h (approximately 186 mph). Whether this mark will actually be achieved remains to be seen – so far, there is no real driving data or test results available. The 820RR therefore remains a concept whose true potential will only become apparent on the road or racetrack.
Other models: sporty, classic, and versatile
The lineup is complemented by the 500RR, a four-cylinder sports motorcycle that is designed to deliver high-revving performance and agile handling. The key technical data looks solid, but is strongly reminiscent of existing concepts from other Chinese manufacturers. The 500F uses the same base, but dispenses with fairings and is visually oriented towards classic naked bikes. Its design is simple, without any clear individuality.
The 820 platform is also used several times. The 820R is a streetfighter that, according to the manufacturer, is designed for both everyday use and sporty riding. The 820ADV adapts the same three-cylinder engine for a travel enduro, which, according to ZXMoto, is intended to set itself apart from established 800 models in terms of performance and everyday usability. The design appears functional, but it also remains to be seen whether a clear line for the brand will develop from it.
Dakar DNA and off-road ambitions
The 450 Rally is most closely linked to Zhang Xue’s past in rallying. His former teams have already achieved stage victories and podium finishes in the Dakar Rally. Accordingly, the 450 Rally is positioned as an off-road-capable, endurance-oriented long-distance motorcycle – and could be considered the most credible representative in the portfolio.
ZXMoto also showcased two motocross models, the MX250 and MX450, as well as the 600V, a cruiser with a V2 engine for relaxed touring.
Positioning unclear – many questions remain
ZXMoto is entering the market at a time when Chinese motorcycle brands are expanding rapidly. Brands such as CFMoto and QJ Motor are active in racing and are increasingly focusing on sporty models with higher-quality equipment. ZXMoto is also following this trend in terms of appearance and concept. Nevertheless, the question remains whether Zhang Xue will succeed in establishing his own identity with his new brand.
Many of the models look familiar, and the technical concept is ambitious but not unique. Long-term development, brand access, and customer acceptance will have to show whether ZXMoto is more than just another label in an already highly competitive market.
