Fully faired CFMoto Papio X0-1: Mini super sports bike with a retro look

With the Papio X0-1, CFMoto is launching a fully faired minibike that clearly draws inspiration from the legendary Japanese sports bikes of the late 1980s. The design alone is reminiscent of icons such as the Suzuki GSX-R750, while the technical specifications and compact format reinterpret the class of small fun bikes.

Design and appearance: Inspired by the past

The new Papio X0-1 adopts many of the styling elements of the well-known Papio SS, but adds full fairing. The striking front with two headlights and retro nose fairing references the classic “pill design” of the first GSX-R generation. New features include side fairing panels and continuous underbody protection that completely encloses the air-cooled single-cylinder engine. Small, sporty winglets on the sides reflect current design trends in larger supersport bikes – but with an output of 9.4 hp (6.9 kW), they serve more of a visual purpose. The maximum torque is 9.2 Nm (6.8 lb-ft) and is said to provide a top speed of around 90 km/h (56 mph).

Ergonomics and chassis: comfort despite mini format

The tank, seat, and rear section have been taken from the Papio SS, but there are adjustments for taller riders. The handlebars are now mounted on higher risers to allow for a more comfortable seating position. In addition, small extensions have been added to the upper fairing, which, according to the manufacturer, are designed to keep airflow away from the hands.

Despite the extensive fairing, the technology remains largely unchanged: the familiar air-cooled 126 cc single-cylinder engine is combined with a six-speed transmission. The chassis continues to consist of a simple steel backbone frame. The suspension features an upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The braking system consists of ABS-assisted disc brakes with a two-piston caliper at the front (210 mm) and a single-piston caliper at the rear (190 mm).

Compact, but not too small

With a wheelbase of 1,205 mm (47.4 inches), the Papio X0-1 is compact, but not as tiny as, say, a Yamaha YSR50 or Honda NSR50 from the 1980s. In terms of size, it is almost on par with the Honda Grom, arguably its most important competitor. The 12-inch wheels and low weight of 114 kg (251 lbs) ensure playful handling.

Electronics and equipment: traction control possible

The “TCS” emblem on the front fender is striking. The abbreviation usually stands for “Traction Control System” – an unusual feature for this class. Although its usefulness seems questionable given the low engine power, more and more manufacturers are relying on additional electronic aids to offer beginners greater safety.

Market launch and conclusion

Since the current Papio SS and CL are already available in various markets, including the US, it is likely that the Papio X0-1 will also be launched internationally. The fully faired fun bike is positioned as a modern mini super sports bike with a retro style, combining proven technology, compact dimensions, and modern electronic features.
