Delayed models: Sports bikes, naked bikes, and adventure series affected
One of the most prominent delays is the new KTM 990 RC R, which, according to the manufacturer, will go into series production in October 2025. The models in the adventure series – 1390 Super Adventure S, 1390 Super Adventure S Evo and 1390 Super Adventure R – are also currently still in the start-up phase and are also scheduled to go into production in October.
According to the schedule, the KTM 990 Duke R will follow the next month, in November 2025. The sporty naked bike is then finally set to go into series production.
The delay for the KTM 1390 Super Duke GT is much more drastic. This model is not expected until 2027 – an indication that KTM is still facing considerable challenges internally. The GT model was originally supposed to be launched as the flagship in the touring segment in 2025.
Economic background: Production halt due to financial turmoil
The delays are due to economic difficulties that became apparent at KTM towards the end of 2024. This resulted in multiple development stops and a temporary production shutdown. Production was not able to resume until July 2025. According to the company, the financial situation has now stabilized – partly thanks to support from its partner Bajaj Auto.
Despite the delays, KTM believes it is on the right track. The company emphasizes that interest in the new models is high. “The enthusiasm surrounding the new model lineup was enormous, especially after the announcements at EICMA and other national trade fairs,” explained KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister.
Manufacturer focuses on quality instead of speed
KTM emphasizes that the later market launch is a conscious decision in order to bring all models to full market maturity. In an official statement, Neumeister said:
“We strive to offer our riders the best possible experience. This decision ensures that every model meets the high expectations of our customers.”
In addition, the company is confident that the new models will deliver “superior performance and innovative technologies” that, according to KTM, will “set new standards in the motorcycle industry.”
Conclusion: KTM prioritizes production readiness over schedule
Even though the delays with the 2025 models may cause disappointment in the short term, a clear strategic line is emerging: KTM does not want to bring half-finished motorcycles to market. Instead, the focus is on technical maturity and quality. However, it remains to be seen how the new models will actually perform after their delayed market launch.
