Competitors focus on smaller displacement engines
Other European manufacturers, including Triumph and KTM, have decided to enter the market for motorcycles with 400 to 500 cm³ engines. These models are intended to facilitate access to new markets and increase sales figures. However, Ducati emphasizes that smaller motorcycles do not fit in with its brand philosophy.
In order to appeal to younger customers, Ducati is focusing on model ranges such as the Scrambler series. In addition, the 698 Mono model was introduced a few months ago with the aim of attracting new target groups to the brand.
Model strategy and production sites
The Italian brand operates two factories. In Italy, models for the European and US markets are primarily built. The factory in Thailand mainly produces motorcycles for Asian markets. Ducati remains true to its line and sees no need to expand its portfolio with smaller displacement models.
Previous rumors about small Ducati models
About seven years ago, rumors circulated about a possible collaboration between Ducati and Hero MotoCorp to develop a new 300cc platform. However, this project was never implemented. Ducati’s direction is therefore clear: the company remains true to its premium claim and has no plans to produce models with small displacement engines.
