Brake problems at Zero Motorcycles: Recall for 2024 models

A safety-related problem has been identified in several 2024 model year Zero Motorcycles models. According to a statement issued by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on July 9, 2025, the recall affects the DSR/X, DS, DSR, and DSRP models. The reason for the recall is an incorrectly routed front brake hose, which can become damaged and lead to brake fluid leakage. This can result in a loss of pressure in the brake system, which significantly reduces braking performance and increases the risk of an accident.

Affected models and quantities

A total of 44 vehicles are affected by the recall. Specifically, the following models built in 2024 are affected:

  • Zero Motorcycles DS
  • Zero Motorcycles DSR
  • Zero Motorcycles DSR/X
  • Zero Motorcycles DSRP

Cause of the problem and previous cases

Back in December 2024, Zero Motorcycles received two warranty claims reporting a leaky brake hose. In one case, the rider lost control of the motorcycle because the front brakes lost a significant amount of their effectiveness. Since no injuries occurred at that time and the number of cases was low, no recall was initiated initially.

However, in June 2025, eight further complaints were received, six of which came from a European fleet. Investigations revealed that the front brake hose had been installed twisted by 180 degrees in some cases. This twisting can lead to damage and leaks, which in turn can result in brake fluid leakage and pressure loss. This increases the risk of an accident, as well as possibly a fire, injury, or in extreme cases, even death.

Recall and remedy

According to its own statements, Zero Motorcycles has responded to the new findings and recalled the affected models for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the brake hose. This will be carried out free of charge at all authorized dealers. According to the manufacturer, owners of the affected motorcycles will be informed of the recall in writing starting July 28, 2025. If you have any questions, please contact customer service at +1-888-841-8085. The internal reference code for this recall is SV-RCL-025-017.
