The EU’s ban on internal combustion engines from 2035 does not apply to motorcycles, at least as things stand.
Ban applies to new registrations
The EU Parliament has decided that no new cars or vans with combustion engines may be registered after 2035. However, this is not yet a done deal, as the Parliament still has to negotiate the details with the EU member states.
However, it can be expected that from 2035 onwards, no cars or vans will be allowed to be registered for the first time as long as they emit greenhouse gases. However, vehicles that have already been registered may continue to be operated. It will also still be possible to sell them and register them with a new owner.
Motorcycles, mopeds and scooters exempt?
Since all this has not yet been finally negotiated, it remains to be seen what will ultimately come of it. As things stand, however, motorcycles are exempt from the ban. At least they have not been mentioned anywhere in this context so far.
