Aprilia RSV4 X Ex3ma: GP technology for the race track

The Aprilia RSV4 X Ex3ma is a new racing motorcycle developed on the basis of MotoGP technology.  Aprilia Racing, known for its success in MotoGP, is launching the fourth chapter of the X-Series with this model.  Since 2019, the X-Series has been developed as a track-only motorcycle, starting with the RSV4 X, followed by the Tuono X and the RSV4 X Trenta in 2022.

The RSV4 X Ex3ma is the first motorcycle to be equipped with ground-effect aerodynamics, previously exclusive to the RS-GP in MotoGP.  This technology was developed and patented by Aprilia Racing.  The aim of the aerodynamic solutions is to improve stability and downforce, particularly at high speeds and when cornering.  The motorcycle has a 550 mm wide front wing and special “cornering wings” taken directly from racing.

Engine and electronics

The motorcycle is powered by a 1,099 cc V4 engine that delivers 230 hp (169 kW) at 13,500 rpm and 131 Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm.  The engine has been optimized for racetrack use and features a titanium exhaust system from SC Project and a special air filter from Sprint Filter.  The engine revs up to 13,900 rpm.

In addition to the performance of the engine, the RSV4 X Ex3ma offers advanced electronics.  The machine is equipped with an APX control unit, which enables precise control of traction control, wheelie control and engine braking.  These parameters can be adjusted on the move.  An integrated GPS system also records telemetry data.

Chassis and brakes

The chassis is based on the proven aluminum frame from Aprilia, which is known for its high agility.  The suspension comes from Öhlins and includes a mechanical fork and a TTX shock absorber, which have been specially tuned for the racetrack.  Brembo supplies the brake system, which consists of GP4 MS brake callipers, Z04 brake pads and 330 mm T-Drive brake discs.

The bike’s carbon wheels help to reduce weight, which improves handling, acceleration and braking performance.  The motorcycle is fitted with Pirelli slick tires, which are also used in the Superbike World Championship.

Limited edition

The Aprilia RSV4 X Ex3ma is being produced in a limited edition of 30 units.  Each one is available online and costs 80,000 euros (approx. 86,000 USD).  Buyers can collect their machine from the Aprilia Racing headquarters in Noale and take a look behind the scenes of the racing department.
