Benda P51: Hybrid boxer with 250 cc and 62 hp

The Benda P51 combines a compact 250cc boxer engine with an electric motor, enabling it to achieve performance levels more typically found in mid-range vehicles. The concept model was presented in China and Europe and demonstrates how far small displacement engines can be developed today.
  • 62 hp (45.6 kW) system output and 100 Nm torque
  • 250 cc boxer twin combined with electric motor
  • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds

The P51 is an experimental hybrid motorcycle that combines classic combustion technology with electric assistance. The boxer engine is at the heart of the concept, while the electric motor is designed to fill the power gap at low revs.

Boxer-based hybrid drive

At the heart of the model is a flat, liquid-cooled DOHC boxer twin-cylinder engine with a displacement of 250 cc. The integration of an additional electric motor is what makes it special. Together, the two engines deliver 62 hp (45.6 kW). The maximum system torque is 100 Nm, which, according to the manufacturer, significantly improves acceleration.

The electric motor transmits its power directly to the front chain sprocket. This design is intended to provide spontaneous thrust, which compensates for the typical weaknesses of small displacement engines in the lower rev range. According to the manufacturer, this concept achieves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Driving dynamics thanks to low center of gravity

The hybrid module and battery have been positioned to keep the center of gravity low. The manufacturer quotes a wet weight of 177 kg, which corresponds to around 390 lbs. The horizontal alignment of the boxer cylinders and the low-mounted battery are designed to improve handling, especially in city traffic.

Other features include an aluminum frame construction with a steel seat frame and a single-sided swing arm. The front uses covered telescopic forks in the style of a girder construction. For additional traction, the battery is located far back in the rear, which is intended to optimize power transmission.

Design between retro and futuristic elements

Visually, the P51 combines classic touches with futuristic details. The design language is characterized by clean edges and flat covers. The headlight with a propeller-like X motif is striking, its design reminiscent of the aircraft that gave the bike its name. The motorcycle was first unveiled at the Chongqing Motorcycle Expo and later shown to an international audience at EICMA 2025.

Company background

Benda Motorcycles is part of Hangzhou Saturn Power Technology Company. The company works strategically with Keeway Motorcycles. Keeway, in turn, is part of QJMotor, which is managed under the umbrella of Geely Holding Group. The development of the P51 shows that the manufacturer wants to expand its position in international markets.

Outlook

Whether the P51 will go into series production is currently unclear. The manufacturer is presenting the model as a functional prototype that explores the possibilities of small hybrid drives. If the concept is pursued further, it could initiate a new direction in the light motorcycle segment.
