New specs under discussion
There are rumors that the 1301cc version of the LC8 V-twin engine, which currently produces about 180 hp (177 hp, 132 KW), will soon be replaced by an updated 1390cc version for 2024. This engine update could mean an increase in torque from the current 139.7 Nm (103lb-ft) to around 150.5 Nm (111lb-ft), while peak power could be in the neighborhood of an impressive 190 hp.
Confirmation from dealer websites
Although there is no confirmation from the official side yet, the existence of this 1390cc engine has been suggested by several parts lists and dealer websites in different countries. Of particular interest, there appear to be two different model numbers for this engine, one of which is referred to as “Engine 1390 Super Duke CN 2024,” suggesting that it could be produced in China. This assumption is supported by the close cooperation between KTM and CFMoto, a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer.
Prices known
In the UK, the price of the engine is listed at £8,179.86 including VAT and £6,816.55 without VAT, which translates to about €8,806 to €9,028 (exact conversion may vary). Interestingly, this price seems to be the same as the current 1290 Super Duke engine.
Conclusion
It remains exciting to see what further developments 2024 will bring for the Duke range, especially with regard to this presumed 1390cc engine. It is expected that this model will be officially unveiled soon, especially since the Duke is already celebrating its 30th anniversary.
