Serious accident in October in Sepang during a Moto3 race
Prolonged hospital and rehabilitation phase, still wearing a neck brace
Decision not to switch teams to SIC58 Squadra Corse
After weeks of silence, Noah Dettwiler has spoken publicly for the first time. The 20-year-old Swiss rider posted a video on social media in which he talks openly about his recovery and thanks his friends, family, and fans.
First public words after the accident
In the video, Dettwiler sits upright in front of the camera, visibly wearing a neck brace. He explains in English that he is doing well under the circumstances and that his health is continuously improving. He says:
“I want to send you a video to show you that I am doing well and my health is steadily improving.”
The Solothurn native emphasizes that he still has a long way to go. After a lengthy stay in hospital, he spent time in a rehabilitation center. He describes the medical care he received as positive and says that his recovery is currently going according to plan.
Long rehabilitation and cautious outlook
In his message, Dettwiler makes it clear that patience is currently the top priority. “I spent a long time in hospital and then in a rehabilitation center. Of course, I still have a long way to go before I am completely healthy again. But everything is going well and according to plan at the moment – I am in good hands,” he explains.
A return to motorcycling is not on the cards at this point. Dettwiler is correspondingly cautious about his sporting prospects and avoids making any concrete statements about a possible comeback.
Thanks to family, friends, and fans
A central part of the video message is his thanks to his personal circle. Dettwiler particularly emphasizes the support he has received from his family, his girlfriend, and his friends. The numerous messages from fans have also helped him through this difficult time.
“Thank you for all the messages over the past few weeks; they have made me stronger. They have helped me get through this tough time,” says the Moto3 rider.
Uncertain sporting future
What is certain is that Dettwiler has put his originally planned sporting steps on hold for the time being. The Swiss rider has decided not to go ahead with a move to Paolo Simoncelli’s Italian Moto3 team SIC58 Squadra Corse, which was already in the pipeline. Whether he will remain in the Moto3 paddock is also currently unclear.
Dettwiler had already announced in writing that his full focus was on his recovery. The decision not to change teams underlines this approach and shows that sporting ambitions are currently taking a back seat to health.
Personal words at the end of the year
In closing, Dettwiler sends personal greetings to his supporters. “I wish you all a Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a Happy New Year,” he says. At the same time, he announces that he will be in touch again in due course: “I will inform you about my future as soon as possible.”
