- New sidecar kit for Triumph Rocket 3 models built from 2020 onwards
- Designed for up to 221 Nm torque
- Compatible with Watsonian sidecars based on perimeter frames
For many years, the Triumph Rocket 3 has been one of the preferred base motorcycles for sidecar conversions in the UK. With the current model change to the generation offered since 2020, the traditional sidecar specialist Watsonian has now responded by developing a specially adapted conversion kit.

New conversion kit for high engine performance
The current Triumph Rocket 3 has a 2,458 cc inline three-cylinder engine that delivers around 167 hp (123 kW) and a maximum torque of 221 Nm. The new Watsonian conversion kit is designed precisely for these values. According to the manufacturer, the design is capable of withstanding the engine’s high power output on a permanent basis.
The core of the kit is a specially developed subframe. This creates defined mounting points for the lower connecting struts of the sidecar. The exact positioning of the connections is crucial here, as only precise triangulation ensures that the combination remains stable and enables controllable handling.
Subframe enables correct axle lead
The subframe fulfills another important function: it allows the exact adjustment of the so-called wheelbase. This refers to the distance by which the sidecar wheel is positioned in front of the rear axle of the motorcycle. This value has a significant influence on directional stability, steering forces, and the general handling of a combination. According to Watsonian, the new kit allows the recommended wheelbase to be adjusted reproducibly.
The complete mounting kit is manufactured at the company’s own factory in the Cotswolds. The tubular frame is made of steel and powder-coated to increase durability in everyday use. The scope of delivery also includes specially adapted, reinforced clamps and fasteners.

Price and compatibility
Watsonian has set a recommended retail price of €2,632 (US$2,858) including VAT for the conversion kit. The kit is compatible with various sidecars from the manufacturer, provided they are based on the company’s own perimeter frame chassis.
The vehicle shown is equipped with a Watsonian GP700 sidecar. In the so-called Stealth version, it features a bobber fender, a very flat, tinted windshield, and black trim, emblems, rims, and wheel hubs. The price for the GP700 in this version is around €9,354 ($10,154).
With the new conversion kit, Watsonian is specifically targeting owners of the current Rocket 3 generation who want to use a powerful motorcycle as the basis for a classic sidecar conversion.
What does this mean for me as a motorcyclist?
For motorcyclists with a Triumph Rocket 3 built in 2020 or later, the new conversion kit means above all that a technically precise sidecar conversion tailored to the high performance values is possible. The specially developed subframe ensures that the assembly is reproducible and dynamically correct, which is particularly relevant for a motorcycle with high torque. At the same time, the option of combining different Watsonian sidecar models remains open. However, the additional financial outlay and the changed riding experience of a combination, which differs significantly from that of a solo motorcycle and usually requires familiarization or training, must be taken into account.
