First technical details of the E-Duke prototype
Although KTM itself has not yet made any official statements about the E-Duke, the first key technical data has been leaked. The prototype is to be equipped with a 10 kW (13.6 hp) electric motor. The energy is supplied by a 5.5 kWh battery. The expected range is over 100 kilometers – a figure that is likely to be aimed primarily at urban commuters.
The chassis remains sporty, as is typical for KTM: A trellis frame forms the basis, along with an upside-down fork (USD), an offset monoshock rear shock absorber and an aluminum swingarm. These components suggest that the typical agile handling of the Duke will be retained despite the electric drive.
Start of series production in 2026 at the earliest
According to unofficial information, the market launch of the E-Duke could take place in 2026 at the earliest, but more likely in 2027. This means that KTM is relatively late in international comparison – brands such as BMW, Zero or Energica have long had market-ready electric models in their portfolio. However, KTM could secure an advantage in the fast-growing markets in Asia through close cooperation with its Indian partner Bajaj.
Bajaj, now a majority shareholder in KTM thanks to financial support in a difficult economic phase, is likely to play a key role in development and production. As a high-volume manufacturer, Bajaj has already gained extensive experience in the cost optimization and scaling of electric platforms in particular.
Same Duke spirit, new drive technology
According to the official Instagram post for the KTM Motohall exhibition, it is clear that the electric prototype will combine the “same Duke spirit” with a “new electric heart”. Visually, the E-Duke remains true to its namesake: the striking look with aggressive lines, narrow headlight and sporty seating position is clearly recognizable. Only the missing exhaust gives away at first glance that this is an e-model.
Conclusion: Waiting for the next generation
Even if KTM has not yet provided any official confirmation or more precise data, the development of the E-Duke already appears to be well advanced. The exhibit on display shows that KTM is not only thinking about emission-free mobility, but also wants to preserve the character of the brand. The next few years will show whether the E-Duke can really convince as a worthy member of the Duke family.
