Triumph recalls Daytona 660 worldwide: Oil level to be corrected

Triumph has launched a global recall campaign for the Daytona 660 model. The reason: insufficient engine oil can lead to dangerously low oil pressure during heavy braking. To prevent engine damage, all affected motorcycles will receive additional oil and a modified dipstick for checking the oil level.

4,315 liters of oil will be refilled worldwide

The affected Daytona 660 models were filled with too little engine oil at the factory. According to Triumph, a total of 4,315 liters are missing worldwide, which corresponds to an average of about 0.5 liters per motorcycle. This amount will be refilled as part of the recall campaign.

In addition, a new dipstick will be installed to better indicate the correct oil level in the future. The aim of this measure is to eliminate the risk of a sudden drop in oil pressure during heavy braking.

Trigger: Oil pressure drop during braking

The recall is based on reports from the USA. Several owners of the Daytona 660 there had experienced problems during hard braking. The oil pressure dropped abruptly, causing the oil pump to suck in air instead of oil. As a result, the crankshaft bearing could not be adequately lubricated. Triumph received 18 warranty claims and 27 reports from workshops, which led to internal tests. These confirmed the problem under certain conditions.

Only by increasing the amount of oil could stable oil pressure be ensured, even during heavy braking maneuvers. This ensures that the engine remains lubricated even during short periods of extreme riding conditions.

Over 8,600 motorcycles affected worldwide

The recall affects 8,630 Triumph Daytona 660 motorcycles worldwide. 1,929 of these are registered on the US market. The following numbers are affected in Europe:

  • Germany: 653 motorcycles
  • Austria: 102 motorcycles
  • Switzerland: 131 motorcycles

Workshop visit required – at no cost to the customer

Triumph has already informed its authorized dealers. In Germany, the recall is being prepared in cooperation with the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The affected owners will be notified as soon as possible. The repair is free of charge for customers and includes:

  • Filling with approximately 0.5 liters of engine oil
  • Installation of a modified dipstick

Conclusion

Triumph is responding to real problems with low oil levels in the Daytona 660. The recall affects over 8,600 motorcycles worldwide and is intended to ensure stable oil pressure in the future by refilling oil and installing a new dipstick – even during heavy braking. Customers only need to schedule a short visit to the workshop. There are no costs involved.
