MotoGP 2025: Marc Márquez and Ducati secure world championship title ahead of schedule

Marc Márquez and the Ducati Desmosedici GP secured the 2025 MotoGP World Championship title ahead of schedule at the Japanese Grand Prix. With five race weekends remaining before the end of the season, the Spanish rider has already been crowned champion, writing another chapter in the history of the premier class of motorcycle racing.

Márquez: First title with Ducati and record series for the team

For Marc Márquez, this is his first world championship title with the Ducati factory team. This success in red underscores the enormous versatility of the Desmosedici GP, as it is Ducati’s fourth consecutive rider title—albeit with three different riders: 2022 and 2023 with Francesco Bagnaia, 2024 with Jorge Martín, and now 2025 with Márquez. This streak is considered unique in the modern MotoGP era and demonstrates how consistently and flexibly Ducati’s technical and sporting concept is being implemented.

Season performance and dominant statistics

Márquez’s season was marked by exceptional consistency and numerous victories. He achieved 14 wins in the sprint races and 11 Grand Prix triumphs. This gave him a total of 541 points – 201 more than the runner-up. Particularly impressive is his record of ten “double wins” – victories in both the sprint and main races on a single weekend, seven of which were in a row. This is a new record for the longest series of combined victories in MotoGP.

The teamwork behind the success

At the Japanese Grand Prix, the extraordinary season performance was rounded off by Francesco Bagnaia, who won both the sprint race and the main race on Sunday. Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali emphasized the role of the entire team in his statement: “Today we celebrate together the strength of a team that never ceases to amaze! Behind every success is consistent teamwork. It is the invisible work in the background that makes victory possible. Every detail makes a difference and becomes the decisive element that allows a champion to fully unleash his potential on the track.”

Domenicali also highlighted that Márquez had found a special harmony with the Desmosedici GP right from the start and had even exceeded his expectations thanks to his extraordinary talent and the precision of the team. The CEO sees this success as the result of months of development work, meticulous strategic planning, and tireless teamwork in Borgo Panigale.

Record series for riders and constructors

The current rider’s title was complemented by the sixth consecutive constructor’s title, which had already been secured in Barcelona. Ducati can thus boast the longest winning streak in the modern MotoGP era. Over 100,000 hours of development work, more than 11,000 hours of calculations and simulations, and numerous test kilometers and engine changes testify to the enormous effort behind the scenes.

The technical highlights of the season include:

  • Over 100,000 hours of development work
  • More than 11,000 hours of simulations and calculations on Ducati HPC clusters
  • Around 2,500 CFD simulation cycles for aerodynamics and engine
  • Over 5,000 hours of test bench work
  • 80 engine changes managed during the season
  • 48 race engines for the six Desmosedici GP riders
  • More than 1 TB of track data and 800 GB of extended data
  • Over 200 hours of on-track testing with Michele Pirro
  • A total of over 30,000 working hours by Ducati-Lenovo team members in the pits
  • More than 300 briefings and team meetings

Pride and solidarity in Borgo Panigale

The latest triumph was celebrated at Ducati’s headquarters in Borgo Panigale. Numerous employees gathered to share in the success – a clear sign of the solidarity and passion behind the project.

Conclusion

Marc Márquez and Ducati’s early world championship title continues an extraordinary success story and underscores the technical excellence and team spirit of the Bologna-based brand. The figures and performances of the season impressively demonstrate the dominance of the Desmosedici GP in the current MotoGP circus.
