Triumph has dropped the “Street” designation from its model range and renamed the corresponding models. At first, type approval applications pointed to this step, meanwhile it has also been officially confirmed.
Speed instead of Street
Certification documents submitted in Australia were to confirm as early as the beginning of May that the “Street” models would be renamed in the future. The background should be a clearer model structure. Later, type approval documents have been published by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, which also referred to this again. In the meantime, Triumph Motorcycles has confirmed the renaming of the Modern Classic models from the 2023 model year.
The Street Twin and Street Scrambler are motorcycles with retro charm. If you are looking for exactly this charm, but want a more powerful engine, you can fall back on the Speed Twin and Scrambler 1200. However, if you look at the model designations alone, this option doesn’t really become clear.
Triumph wants to incorporate these Street models into the “Speed” range in the future and simply name them with the addition of the engine displacement size. Instead of Street Twin and Street Scrambler, the bikes will then be called Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900, making the relationship with the 1200 series clearer. Presumably, only one Street will remain, the Street Triple. At least there is no information on a renaming yet.
