A production defect in the camshaft chain tensioner is causing a recall of the 2021 Kawasaki Z400 ABS, Ninja 400 and Ninja 400 ABS.
The recall originated in the American region. However, since motorcycles are usually manufactured in one plant for the global market, other markets could also be affected.
During production of the camshaft chain tensioner, defects occurred in the heat treatment process, resulting in insufficient tensioner strength. It could be damaged while driving and cause noise. In the worst case, stalling of the engine while driving would be possible, which could lead to a crash.
In the U.S., owners will be contacted as of Dec. 21, 2020.
