Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS as a track bike – radically converted for the race track

Triumph has so far steadfastly refused to give its Speed Triple 1200 RS a sporty fairing upgrade.  Although many fans have been hoping for a fully clad version of the British power naked for years, the model policy in Hinckley remains conservative – large-volume super sports bikes seem to have no future there.  But where the manufacturer puts the brakes on, dedicated enthusiasts get to work.  The result: an uncompromisingly built Speed Triple 1200 RS for the race track, which is now for sale.

From naked to racing machine: conversion with brains

The basis is the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS with its 1160 cc three-cylinder engine.  Instead of the standard handlebars, clip-ons below the upper triple clamp and Lightech pegs ensure an aggressive, racing-style riding position.  The brake system also remains high quality: the original Brembo components have been retained, but adapted to the modified cockpit with new steel flex lines.

More power, less weight

There is more than just a fairing kit under the cover.  The conversion includes a complete racing exhaust system from Zard and ECU remapping by Woolich.  According to the supplier, the power output is now around 187 hp (137.5 kW) at the rear wheel – standard is just under 180 hp (132.4 kW).  The tuning is supported by a DNA racing air filter and special racing spark plugs with surface discharge.  In addition, all unnecessary components – including the secondary air system and evaporation system – have been removed.

Thanks to the weight optimization, the motorcycle weighs around 10 kg less than the standard model, i.e. around 188 kg (414 lbs) instead of the original 198 kg (436 lbs).

Completely demountable – naked parts included

Despite the radical conversion, the motorcycle remains flexible: all standard components for conversion back to naked status are included in the purchase price.  So if you prefer to ride on country roads after all, you can convert the track bike back again.

Attractively priced compared to the new model

A new production model of the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS currently costs £17,495 (approx. €20,470 or $21,950).  The price for this completely rebuilt track bike is £12,999 (approx. €15,200 or $16,300) – and that includes conversions, racing parts and original components.  For ambitious amateur racers, this should be an interesting alternative to buying a new bike.
