Aprilia filed a patent for active aerodynamics on June 11, 2020, which could be used in a future RSV4.
The patent drawings show air ducts that suck in the non-swirled air next to the front wheel and direct it to the radiator in order to supply it with cooler air more effectively. This could reduce the size of the cooler and also save weight.
However, the air ducts are also equipped with a flap, which is activated at high speed, depending on the fork compression, and discharges the air, thereby minimizing the braking effect of air pressure.
As with all patent applications, it remains to be seen whether the system will also make it into series production.
