Brembo unveils first brake caliper made from 100% recycled aluminum – initially only for cars

In September 2025, Brembo set a new milestone on the road to greater sustainability. The company presented a brake caliper made entirely from recycled aluminum. The new brake caliper is the result of a project that was launched back in 2020. Since then, Brembo has been working to reduce CO₂ emissions over the product life cycle by around 70 percent compared to conventional systems.

Development and production: Over five years of research

The development process began five years ago with the aim of making production more sustainable. According to Brembo, the development involved a comprehensive redesign. Production is now underway, and the new component is already being delivered to one of Brembo’s major partners—which partner has not yet been disclosed. According to Brembo, delivery began simultaneously “in all markets.”

New look: The ALU logo as a distinguishing feature

Visually, the recycled brake caliper hardly differs from the manufacturer’s familiar models. However, the new calipers feature their own ALU logo as a distinguishing feature, indicating the use of recycled aluminum. The previous models made of conventional aluminum will continue to be produced until the end of their product life. After that, Brembo plans to gradually introduce more sustainable production as the new standard.

Area of application: Not for use on motorcycles or in racing

Despite the focus on sustainability, there is one downside for motorcycle fans: The new brake calipers made from recycled aluminum are currently intended exclusively for OEM applications in the automotive sector. According to the company, there are currently no plans to extend the technology to the motorcycle or racing sector. The recycled calipers are therefore not available for motorcycles or the aftermarket for the time being. However, the company emphasizes that this could change in the future.

Statement from the company management

Daniele Schillaci, CEO of Brembo, commented on the completion of the project as follows: “The use of recycled aluminum in the production of our iconic brake calipers embodies our ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability. This solution is designed to combine the highest performance standards with environmental responsibility. Brembo’s path is one of continuous improvement and tireless commitment. This innovation, which we are now bringing to market, is our contribution to a future in which our new products are smarter, safer, and more sustainable than their predecessors.”

Outlook: Gradual transition planned

Brembo intends to switch production to recycled aluminum as soon as the products currently in use reach the end of their life cycle. Future products will then be manufactured exclusively from recycled materials and using renewable energy.

Technical specifications and key figures

  • Reduced emissions: Up to 70% less CO₂ emissions in the life cycle analysis
  • Material: 100% recycled aluminum
  • Marking: New ALU logo for upcycled calipers
