58th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix 2026 – The Season Finale of International Road Racing
From November 19 to 22, 2026, the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix returns to the legendary Circuito da Guia for its 58th edition. Alongside the Isle of Man TT and the North West 200, the Macau GP is one of the last great international motorcycle road races – and for many road racing fans, the most spectacular season finale of them all.
Circuit and Challenge
The 6.120 km Guia Circuit ranks among the most demanding racing circuits in the world. The track winds through the narrow urban canyons of Macau, past high-rise buildings, casino hotels and historic structures. With a minimum width of just seven metres, fast straights along the waterfront promenade and technically demanding cornering sections through the city centre, the Guia Circuit leaves no room for error. Armco barriers and concrete walls line the entire course – there are no gravel traps or run-off areas like on permanent racing circuits.
History and Significance
The Macau Grand Prix was first held in 1954 and has since become one of the most prestigious motorsport events in Asia. The motorcycle race was added to the programme in 1967 and has attracted the world’s best road racers ever since. Legends such as Michael Rutter, John McGuinness, Peter Hickman and Ian Hutchinson have all written their names on the winner’s list. At the 57th edition in 2025, Davey Todd dominated on the BMW M 1000 RR, leading a complete BMW 1-2-3 finish – followed by Peter Hickman and Erno Kostamo.
Race Format and Classes
The motorcycle race is traditionally a single race over a set number of laps on superbike machinery. Riders compete on production-based superbikes from the major manufacturers – BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha are regularly represented. The race weekend includes free practice and qualifying on Thursday and Friday, with the main race on Saturday or Sunday. The Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix is part of the larger Macau Grand Prix weekend, which also features the FIA GT World Cup and the TCR World Tour.
Macau as a Travel Destination
The Special Administrative Region of Macau on the south coast of China combines Portuguese colonial heritage with a modern Asian metropolis. The historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the Cotai Strip with its casino resorts offers an impressive skyline.
