MotoGP Grand Prix of Australia 2026 at Phillip Island

The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix returns to the legendary Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit from 23 to 25 October 2026. Round 18 of the 2026 MotoGP season takes place at one of the most spectacular racetracks in the world – perched on the coast of Bass Strait in the Australian state of Victoria. Phillip Island has been a fixture on the MotoGP calendar since 1997 and has become one of the absolute highlights of the season thanks to its breathtaking location and unique track layout.

Track and Statistics

The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is 4.445 km long and features 12 corners – 5 right-handers and 7 left-handers. The track is famous for its fast, flowing corners and extremely high average speeds. The legendary Turn 1 (Doohan Corner) and the high-speed passage through Lukey Heights and the MG Corner are among the most challenging and exhilarating sections on the entire MotoGP calendar. The MotoGP lap record stands at 1:27.767 minutes, set by Jorge Martín (Ducati). The venue has a spectator capacity of approximately 40,000.

Phillip Island as a Travel Destination

Phillip Island is located approximately 140 kilometres southeast of Melbourne and is easily accessible via the Bass Highway and the South Gippsland Highway. The island is renowned far beyond motorsport – particularly for its nightly Penguin Parade, where hundreds of Little Penguins waddle from the sea to the beach at sunset. Other attractions include the Nobbies Centre overlooking the fur seal colony at Seal Rocks, the Koala Conservation Centre, and numerous surf beaches. Melbourne serves as an excellent starting point for international visitors, offering excellent infrastructure with airport connections, hotels, and a vibrant culinary scene.
