MotoGP – British Grand Prix – 2026

MotoGP Returns to Silverstone for a Midsummer Showdown
From August 7 to 9, 2026, the MotoGP World Championship heads to the legendary Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire for Round 13 of the season. After a brief stint in May during the 2025 edition, the British Grand Prix reclaims its traditional summer slot in August – a move welcomed by fans and teams alike.
Silverstone is the spiritual home of British motorsport. Built on a former World War II military airfield, the venue first hosted racing in 1948 and has been the permanent home of the British motorcycle Grand Prix since 2010. Prior to that, Silverstone hosted the British round from 1977 to 1986 before Donington Park took over from 1987 to 2009.
Circuit and Statistics
The Silverstone Grand Prix circuit measures 5.9 kilometres, making it one of the longest tracks on the MotoGP calendar. Its 18 corners – including legendary sections like Maggotts, Becketts, and the Hangar Straight – demand the utmost precision from riders at speeds of up to 341 km/h. The current qualifying record stands at 1:57.309, set by Aleix Espargaró in 2024. The fastest race lap belongs to Alex Rins, who clocked 1:59.346 in 2022.
At the 2024 edition, Enea Bastianini dominated the entire weekend, winning both the Sprint and the main race – an impressive display of power by the Ducati rider, who overtook Jorge Martín in the closing laps.
Silverstone as a Travel Destination
The circuit is located approximately 100 kilometres northwest of London, on the border of Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire. The surrounding region offers attractive side trips including the Cotswolds, the historic town of Towcester, and the university city of Oxford. The venue is accessible by car via the M1 and M40 motorways, by train to Milton Keynes Central, or via shuttle services on race weekends.
