Design and ergonomics: Rally styling meets functionality
The design of the KLE500 and KLE500 SE is clearly inspired by current rally motorcycles. Characteristic features such as the raised windshield, the short, high-mounted 16-liter fuel tank, and the slim side fairing define the appearance. Bright LED lighting at the front and rear ensures visibility day and night. Kawasaki’s KX motocross models were the inspiration for the design, which is reflected in the elongated side covers and narrow tank shape. This construction allows for a close connection between rider and machine and promotes a high degree of freedom of movement – both when sitting and standing.
The windshield is adjustable to three positions. In the highest setting, it offers maximum wind protection for long road trips, while the lowest position ensures optimum visibility for off-road use. The seating position is upright and features a wide handlebar, comfortably padded seats, and sensibly positioned footrests for precise control in all riding situations.
Customizable ergonomics and accessories
A highlight of both models is the individually adjustable seat system. The ERGO-FIT program offers a lower passenger seat and a lower driver’s seat as original accessories. This results in four different seat configurations designed to offer both long-distance comfort and high freedom of movement for off-road use.
For longer tours, up to three cases (two side cases plus top case, available as accessories) can be mounted on the reinforced rear section. Other options in the accessories range include heated grips, USB-C charging socket, engine and hand guards, auxiliary headlights, center stand, and a GPS mount. An Akrapovic titanium rear silencer with carbon heat shield is also available for the European market.
Engine and chassis: Developed for road and off-road use
At the heart of the KLE500 is a water-cooled parallel twin engine with a displacement of 451 cm³. It features fuel injection, an assist and slipper clutch system, and smooth power delivery. According to the manufacturer, the engine delivers powerful torque at low revs and smooth acceleration – ideal for use on and off the road. Exact performance data has not yet been released.
The chassis is based on a lightweight, stable steel trellis frame. A specially developed KYB upside-down cartridge fork is used at the front, and a new Uni-Trak shock absorber at the rear. The suspension travel is 210 mm at the front and 200 mm at the rear. According to Kawasaki, this should enable the KLE500 to deliver confident handling on asphalt and excellent shock absorption off-road.
The 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels emphasize the rally character and offer advantages in off-road use. IRC GP-410 tires provide traction on various surfaces. Disc brakes at the front and rear ensure reliable deceleration, and the ABS system can be switched off on both models, depending on the respective legal situation.
KLE500 SE: More equipment for demanding adventures
The KLE500 SE offers additional features that are specifically designed for demanding adventure touring. These include a larger windshield, sturdy hand guards, generous engine protection, and more modern TFT instrumentation. LED turn signals are also standard on the SE.
Connectivity and instruments
Both models are equipped with modern instrumentation. While the standard version has a fully digital LCD display, the SE features a color TFT display. Smartphone connectivity with “Rideology The App Motorcycle” provides functions such as trip log, navigation, and voice control.
Fuel tank and range
The 16-liter fuel tank is deliberately positioned high up and, together with the efficient engine, offers a long range per tank filling. This makes longer journeys possible without constant refueling.
Color options
The KLE500 is available in Metallic Carbon Gray/Ebony. The KLE500 SE is available in Pearl Blizzard White, Pearl Storm Gray, and Metallic Bluish Green.
