LiveWire presents two new electric motorcycle concepts for road and off-road use

Harley-Davidson’s electric motorcycle brand LiveWire unveiled two new concept models at its official homecoming event in Milwaukee. Both electric motorcycles are positioned as 125cc equivalents and are aimed at a younger audience and those new to electric mobility. The models are specifically designed for urban and off-road use.

Key technical data: power, speed, and range

According to initial information, both models will have a seat height of approximately 762 mm (equivalent to around 30 inches). Acceleration from 0 to 48 km/h (30 mph) takes around three seconds. LiveWire specifies the top speed as approximately 85 km/h (53 mph). The range is said to be around 160 km (100 miles), although the actual value may vary depending on the usage scenario.

Both electric motorcycles are powered by two removable batteries that can either be recharged or replaced directly. Details on engine power, torque, or weight have not yet been officially released. For comparison, competing models such as the Zero XB achieve a maximum power output of around 20.1 hp (15.5 kW) with a maximum torque of around 40 Nm. However, corresponding figures for the LiveWire concepts have not yet been announced.

Target groups and areas of application

The first concept is tailored for use in urban areas. The focus here is on everyday use, for example for small errands or for riders looking for an uncomplicated introduction to electric mobility. The low seat height and manageable power level are designed to make it easier for novice riders to get started.

The second model is aimed at fans of off-road riding. The focus is on fun and agility away from paved roads, for example in your own garden, on pump tracks, ranches, or campsites. Due to their maximum speed, neither model is currently intended for use on highways.

Battery replacement and modularity

A unique feature of the new LiveWire concepts is the battery replacement system. The two removable batteries can be easily exchanged or charged separately. This solution could prove particularly advantageous in everyday use and on trails, as it avoids long charging times. The approach is reminiscent of Kymco’s Ionex technology, with which LiveWire has been partnering for some time.

Market positioning and competition

With the concepts presented, LiveWire is positioning itself in the growing market for lightweight electric motorcycles and mini EVs. The focus on an attractive entry-level price and modular battery replacement suggests that LiveWire is aiming to compete directly with models such as the Zero XB and Sur-Ron Light Bee. The target groups are both urban commuters and leisure riders looking for a lightweight, low-maintenance, and versatile solution.

Production readiness and market launch

Both models presented are still in the concept stage. However, the visual impression and the technical level known so far suggest that the motorcycles are already relatively close to production readiness. An official market launch could take place at EICMA 2025.

Conclusion

With these two concept motorcycles, LiveWire is venturing into the class of lightweight, versatile electric motorcycles. Modularity, user-friendliness, and everyday practicality are at the heart of the development. Whether the models can hold their own on the market will ultimately depend on pricing, technical details, and acceptance by the target group.
