- New biker series from “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter
- Starring and produced by Jason Momoa
- Plot set in New Zealand’s outlaw scene
A new chapter in the biker genre
“Nomad” is another series production in which Kurt Sutter focuses on the world of outlaw bikers. Apple TV+ is developing the series together with Sutter and Chris Collins, who is set to be the showrunner. The story is set in the New Zealand underworld and follows a biker who is torn between two paths in life, two families, and two cultural identities. The character is confronted with questions of loyalty and an existential decision.

Setting in New Zealand
The choice of New Zealand as the setting anchors “Nomad” in a real-life biker culture. Outlaw gangs there, such as the Nomads or the Mongrel Mob, are considered influential groups, some of whose members wear traditional Māori tattoos. This environment is intended to create a visually striking and culturally grounded foundation for the series. Initial reports mention a connection to films such as “The Last Warrior,” which paint a similarly uncompromising picture of New Zealand’s violence and family structures.
Creative team familiar with the genre
Behind the scenes, Sutter and Collins are working together again. Both were instrumental in “Sons of Anarchy.” Collins also brings experience from “The Wire,” “The Man in the High Castle,” and the screenplay for “John Wick: Chapter 3.” Together, they are writing the pilot episode. Collins will then take over creative direction, while Sutter remains involved as a producer.
Jason Momoa is also involved as an executive producer. His production company, On the Roam, was responsible for the documentary series of the same name, which also deals with biker and craft culture. For Apple TV+, “Nomad” would be the third joint project with the actor.

Jason Momoa as the main character
Jason Momoa is set to take on the central role of the conflicted protagonist. He previously starred in “See” and “Chief of War” for Apple TV+. At the same time, Momoa also remains present in other productions, including the documentary series “On the Roam with Jason Momoa.” He was most recently seen in theaters in “The Minecraft Movie,” whose success led to a sequel. Other projects such as “Fast & Furious 10: Part 2,” announced for 2027, underscore his continued presence in the action genre.
Connection and distinction from Sutter’s previous series
Although “Nomad” revisits the outlaw biker milieu, according to current information, the series is not intended to establish a direct connection to “Sons of Anarchy” or “Mayans M.C.” Fans are nevertheless speculating about possible guest appearances, but nothing has been confirmed. The new production is intended to be a standalone narrative with a stronger focus on cultural backgrounds and the New Zealand biker scene.

Production status and outlook
Apple TV+ has not yet officially confirmed the project, according to reports. However, media outlets such as Deadline cite exclusive sources stating that script work on the pilot is underway. A launch date for the series has not been set. However, with Momoa, Sutter, and Collins already involved, production is expected to begin soon.
Sutter is also working on the western series “The Abandons” for Netflix, which is scheduled to be released in December 2025. Despite this project, “Nomad” marks his return to the biker genre, which has shaped a significant part of his career.
