- Toprak Razgatlioglu’s MotoGP debut for the 2026 season
- Targeted development with a view to the 2027 season
- Marc Marquez as the clear benchmark
After several successful years in the Superbike World Championship, Toprak Razgatlioglu is venturing into MotoGP. Even before he has competed in a single race weekend in the premier class, the Turkish rider has made it clear who he wants to measure himself against. For him, Marc Marquez is the rider to beat.
Clear objectives ahead of MotoGP debut
Although Razgatlioglu has no previous racing experience on a MotoGP bike, he has set himself ambitious but clearly defined goals. He explicitly sees the 2026 season as a learning phase. During this time, the main focus will be on getting used to the technology, the level, and the procedures in MotoGP.
However, the three-time Superbike World Champion makes no secret of the fact that he is already hoping for some strong results in his rookie year. Good placings or even podium finishes would be a success for him, but they are not his main focus.
2027 as a key year
Razgatlioglu’s real focus is on the 2027 season. With new tires and revised regulations, he expects changed conditions that, in his view, should offer better chances for consistent top results. This year, he wants to fight for top positions on a regular basis.
Marc Marquez as the benchmark
In a direct comparison, Razgatlioglu explicitly mentions one name: Marc Marquez. The nine-time Grand Prix world champion is his biggest test. Razgatlioglu is already hoping for individual direct duels in the 2026 season, even though he realizes that this will not be a sure-fire success.
In an interview with the Spanish media outlet Marca, Razgatlioglu said:
“The first year will be a learning year. After that, with the new tires and new rules, I feel that there will be a lot of success in 2027. Before that, if I manage to get some good positions, or some podiums if possible, I will be very happy.”
Hopes for early duels
Despite his long-term planning, Razgatlioglu has also set himself a clear goal for the near future. He wants to get into direct battles with Marquez as early as possible, ideally in his first season.
He added:
“I hope to be fighting with him in some races this season, that’s my goal, but in 2027 my biggest challenge will be fighting with him.”
Technology and environment as decisive factors
Whether these ambitious goals are realistic depends not only on Razgatlioglu’s adaptability. The competitiveness of the Yamaha M1 also plays a central role. Last season, it sometimes seemed as if the Honda RC213V had made greater strides in development.
If this trend continues, Yamaha could start the 2026 season with the weakest overall package. How competitive the bike actually is will only become clear during the pre-season tests.
Patient development with a clear goal
Regardless of the unanswered questions, Razgatlioglu’s roadmap remains clear. His first steps in MotoGP should be solid and focused on learning. From 2027 onwards, he wants to establish himself regularly at the top and engage in targeted duels with Marc Marquez. The benchmark has been set, and the path to get there has been deliberately planned for the long term.
