Harley-Davidson recalls over 82,000 Softail models due to potential tire risk

Harley-Davidson has launched a major recall affecting more than 82,000 Softail motorcycles worldwide. The reason for the recall is a problem with the rear shock absorber mount, which could break.

What exactly is the problem?

The cause of the recall is a potentially faulty mounting bracket on the rear shock absorber, more specifically on the preload adjustment mechanism. This bracket could break and then rub against the rear tire. In the worst case, this could lead to a sudden loss of air in the rear tire – a scenario that can be particularly dangerous while riding.

Which models are affected?

The recall covers the following models of the Harley-Davidson Softail series built between 2018 and 2024:

  • FLDE (2018–2019)
  • FLHC (2018–2021)
  • FLHCS (2018–2024)
  • FLHCS ANV (2018, 2023)
  • FXLRS (2020–2024)
  • FXLRST (2022–2024)
  • FXRST (2022)

How will the issue be resolved?

Harley-Davidson is fixing the problem by installing a new, more robust bracket free of charge. Affected owners will receive notification letters starting June 16, 2025. However, it is already possible to contact authorized dealers or Harley-Davidson’s official customer service directly to arrange an early workshop appointment.

Important note for previous recalls

Vehicles that have already been repaired as part of the older recall 23V591 should still be checked again. They may also be affected by this current recall and therefore require further repair.
