Engine: In-house development with 95 hp and Euro 5+ standard
Unlike many other manufacturers from China, Zontes does not use a replica of a Japanese inline four-cylinder engine in the 703 RR, but instead relies on an inline three-cylinder engine developed in-house. This engine has a displacement of 699 cubic centimeters, double overhead camshafts (DOHC), and four valves per cylinder. The maximum power output is 95 hp (70 kW) at 11,500 rpm, and the maximum torque is 74 Newton meters (Nm) at 8,500 rpm. This means that the engine complies with the Euro 5+ emissions standard.
Performance and electronics
According to the manufacturer, the Zontes 703 RR accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 3 seconds. The top speed is said to be 159 mph. These figures seem rather optimistic given the power output and have not yet been independently confirmed. Power is transmitted via a 6-speed transmission, which offers a quickshifter for upshifting. An anti-hopping clutch makes downshifting easier. Two riding modes – “Eco” and “Sport” – as well as traction control (TCS) are standard features.
Comparison with the CFMoto 675 SR-R
Zontes originally announced a power output of over 100 hp for the European version, specifically 110 hp (81 kW). Ultimately, the production model delivers 95 hp. This puts the 703 RR five hp above the similar CFMoto 675 SR-R, which also has a three-cylinder engine and 90 hp (66 kW).
Chassis and components
The chassis and rear swing arm of the Zontes 703 RR are made of aluminum. The shock absorber and upside-down telescopic fork are from Marzocchi and are both adjustable. The brake system is supplied by Brembo; ABS is standard. The tires are from Michelin and are mounted in sizes 120/70-17 at the front and 180/55-17 at the rear. The motorcycle has a tire pressure monitoring system. The wheelbase is 1,450 millimeters and the seat height is 820 millimeters. The weight with a full tank is 196 kilograms (approx. 432 lbs). The tank holds 16 liters.
Features: Connectivity, keyless go, and heated grips
The Zontes 703 RR comes with a wide range of features, including a large color display with tire pressure indicator, a keyless entry system, two USB ports, and heated grips as standard. These features are exceptional in this price range and are designed to increase the everyday usability of the motorcycle.
Pricing and market position
In Italy, the Zontes 703 RR was launched at a price of €7,990 (approx. US$8,720). Similar prices are expected for the German market, as distribution is also handled by Distribike (a division of Betamotor). However, the 703 RR already appeared in the first price lists of German dealers with a price of €8,270 (approx. US$9,025). This puts the model roughly on par with its competitors, such as the CFMoto 675 SR-R, which costs €7,999 (approx. US$8,720) in Germany. The travel-ready enduro version, the Zontes 703 F, was listed in Germany at €8,770 (approx. US$9,570).
Additional variants and A2 option
The 703 models from Zontes are available with a restricted power output of 48 hp (35 kW) upon request, allowing them to be driven with a European A2 driver’s license. Additional variants such as the naked bike Zontes 703 R and the sport cruiser Zontes 703 V are expected to follow.
