As part of internal quality controls, KTM has identified a potential safety risk in selected models of the 390 series. The side stand spring can be damaged by engine vibrations in certain vehicles and, in extreme cases, break. The manufacturer is responding with a precautionary recall measure.
Which models are affected by the recall?
Only motorcycles with forged side stands from model years 2025 and 2026 are affected by the recall. Specifically, this applies to the following models:
- KTM 390 Adventure R
- KTM 390 Adventure X
- KTM 390 Enduro R
- KTM 390 SMC R
According to KTM, other side stand designs are not affected. Older model years are also not covered by this measure.
Cause: Vibrations can damage the spring
According to KTM, quality tests have shown that engine vibrations can put strain on the side stand spring under certain, unspecified conditions. In isolated cases, this has reportedly led to the spring breaking. The number of known cases is low, but KTM is recalling the bikes to rule out any potential risk.
Technical measure at the dealer
During the workshop visit, authorized KTM dealers will replace the side stand spring and also fit a rubber protector. This is intended to reduce the load on the spring and prevent future damage.
On certain vehicles, a new retaining plate for the side stand sensor will also be installed. This component changes the trigger range of the side stand switch. The dealer will decide whether this additional update is necessary on a vehicle-specific basis.
Note for traveling to the dealer
To ensure that the affected motorcycles can be moved safely to the workshop appointment, KTM recommends temporarily securing the side stand. The manufacturer advises securing the stand with a rubber band or similar solution to prevent it from accidentally folding out if the spring is already damaged.
Recall procedure
KTM will inform the owners of the affected vehicles in writing. An appointment should then be made with an authorized KTM dealer. The inspection and all necessary work will be carried out free of charge and exclusively through the official dealer network.
Owners can also check in advance whether their motorcycle is affected by the measure by entering the vehicle identification number in the service area of the KTM website. A complete list of all authorized dealers is also available there.
