Dunlop recalls TT93 GP motorcycle tires due to safety issues

Dunlop has announced a recall for its TT93 GP motorcycle tires, which are approved for both road use and track days. The affected tires, size 120/80-12 55J, model TT93 GP PRO Medium, was produced between December 30, 2024, and July 6, 2025, according to the announcement. The recall only affects tires that were sold online. Factory-fitted tires are not affected.

Defective surface coating may reduce grip

The reason for the recall is a manufacturing defect. According to the manufacturer Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), a thin layer of rubber compound was discovered on the tread of some tires. This layer can significantly impair road grip. The official description states:

“The tire may have a thin layer of rubber compound on the tread. This condition may reduce traction and increase the risk of motorcycle accidents and injuries.”

The defective coating poses an increased risk of accidents, especially when driving aggressively or in wet conditions.

DOT codes for identifying the affected tires

The affected tires can be identified by their DOT codes. The key characteristics are the marking 1VW 4LAALM followed by a four-digit calendar week between 0125 and 2725. A complete list of affected DOT codes includes, among others:

  • 1VW 4LAALM 0125
  • 1VW 4LAALM 0525
  • 1VW 4LAALM 1125
  • 1VW 4LAALM 1725
  • 1VW 4LAALM 2725

The complete overview of all codes has been published by Goodyear Operations S.A. The recall notification was issued by the Luxembourg authorities.

Product features and origin

The recalled model is a road-legal tire with a sporty design, which is primarily used on sports scooters with 10- or 12-inch wheels. The affected tire was manufactured in Japan.

Measures and recommendations

Affected motorcyclists should stop using the tires immediately. It is recommended that they contact an authorized Dunlop dealer or the respective online retailer. There, they can obtain a refund or exchange the tire.

According to EU regulations, the product does not comply with the regulation on the approval and market surveillance of two- or three-wheeled vehicles and light quadricycles, which further substantiates the recall.
