Major recall at Honda: Several models affected due to defective sealing screws

Honda is currently forced to recall several motorcycles from various series due to potential safety risks. The models affected include the Rebel 1100, Africa Twin 1100, and XL750 Transalp from the 2025 model year. The reason for this is a manufacturing defect in the sealing screws of the crankcase, which can cause oil to leak and get onto the rear tire. The associated risk of accidents is considered to be significant.

Which models are affected?

The recall covers the following models and production periods:

  • CB1000S/SPS
  • CB750AS
  • CMX1100A2S/AS (Rebel 1100)
  • CRF1100A3S/AS/A4S (Africa Twin 1100)
  • NT1100AS
  • XL750S (XL750 Transalp)

Motorcycles produced between October 25, 2024, and March 27, 2025, are affected. The vehicles were manufactured in Japan.

Cause of defect and risk

Internal checks revealed that the crankcase sealing screws on some machines were not manufactured to the correct specifications. The defective screws can cause oil to leak while riding and get onto the rear wheel. This significantly reduces the tire’s grip and, according to Honda, can lead to loss of control and crashes. A similar defect first occurred during an inspection of two CB1000 models in Japan at the end of 2024. The problem has since been observed worldwide.

According to Honda, around 1,016 vehicles are affected, which corresponds to approximately one percent of the units produced. The recall campaign has been assigned the code 3PV in Europe and the campaign number KS2 in the US.

Recall measures and processing

The recall was officially implemented on May 29, 2025. Dealers and authorized repair shops were informed on May 27, 2025. Vehicle owners are to be notified by July 25, 2025, at the latest. Motorcycles produced on or after February 17, 2025, should already be equipped with the correctly manufactured components and are not affected, according to Honda.

As part of the recall, the affected sealing screws will be replaced free of charge with fault-free ones. Owners who have already had the repair carried out at their own expense can apply for a refund upon presentation of appropriate evidence.

Cross-border recalls and contact persons

The recall is not limited to the US, but also applies to European markets, including Belgium. Even outside these regions, it is advisable to check with your local Honda customer service center to see if your vehicle is affected.

If you have any questions, please contact Honda Customer Service at 1-866-784-1870 (USA) or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. European customers should contact their respective importer or local Honda dealership.
