Technical details: A leap of 50 years
Although the model name is reminiscent of the original 1975 model, the technical details of the two bikes are completely different, as the special model is of course based on the current Dragster. Of course, an evolution is not surprising, considering that half a century has passed since the introduction of the original and technology in motorcycle construction has advanced considerably in every respect.
The MV Agusta Dragster RR SCS America Special Edition 2023 is powered by a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 12-valve, 798cc (48.7 cu in) three-cylinder engine. The engine produces 140 hp at 12,300 rpm and 64.1 lb-ft (87 Nm) of torque at 12,800 rpm. The transmission is a six-speed that features MV’s Smart Clutch System (SCS) 3.0, a hydraulically actuated automatic clutch.
Suspension and braking system
Suspension consists of a Marzocchi upside-down fork that is fully adjustable and features diamond-like coating (DLC) and anodized fork legs. In the rear, a fully adjustable progressive Sachs monoshock operates. The braking system is supplied by Brembo, with a pair of radial four-piston calipers and 320mm (12.6 inch) floating discs up front, and a single two-piston caliper and 220mm (8.66 inch) disc at the rear. Continental ABS is present both front and rear works lean angle sensitive and has rear wheel lift monitoring.
Weight and design
The MV Agusta Dragster RR SCS America Special Edition has a dry weight of 175 kg (385.8 lbs), which can be reduced to 167 kg (368.17 lbs) when equipped with the optional Special Parts Full Exhaust (and associated ECU), which is, however, intended for track use only. The bike’s styling features a striking red, white and blue color scheme that highlights the heritage of the 750S America.
Price and availability
The MV Agusta Dragster RR SCS America Special Edition 2023 will be priced starting at $28,247. Considering that the 1975 model cost about $6,000 new – the equivalent of about $35,024 today when adjusted for inflation – the new America Special Edition actually seems like a bargain. This special edition is limited to just 300 examples and is also only available in the US.
Engine performance:
- In standard operation, it delivers a stated power of 140 hp at 12,300 rpm and a maximum torque of 64.2 lb.-ft. at 10,250 rpm (equivalent to 142 hp = 105 kW and 87 Nm).
