With Rhys Stephenson, one of the most promising young British short-circuit racers is stepping onto the Isle of Man TT stage for the first time in 2026. The 20-year-old from Lincolnshire will compete for Team Rocket Racing in the new Sportbike class, piloting a Triumph Daytona 660. Stephenson is the youngest rider on this year’s solo entry lists and joins Franco Bourne and Gary McCoy among the newcomers to the Mountain Course.

From the British Talent Cup to the Mountain Course
Stephenson’s career so far reads like the classic trajectory of a talented young rider through British racing. He started in the British Talent Cup in 2021, now known as Moto4, scoring points in 14 of 18 races during his debut year. The breakthrough came in 2022, when he took four second places and two third places, finishing the season as overall fourth with a total of six podium finishes. Stephenson had also previously participated in the Red Bull Rookies Cup.
After another year in the Talent Cup, the rider from Skegness moved to the Pirelli National Sportbike Championship in 2024. The transition to the new class went smoothly. Already in his first season, he finished second at Thruxton and ended the championship in eighth place. In 2025, Stephenson improved significantly once again, securing multiple podium finishes, setting lap records, and taking two pole positions. Despite bad luck that affected his title challenge, he finished the season in seventh overall. That made him the second-best Triumph rider in the field behind Harrison Dessoy, who has since moved on to the World Sportbike Championship.
A Deliberately Learning-Focused Program
For 2026, Stephenson has shifted his focus entirely to the TT. Rather than spreading budget and energy across a broader road racing program, all resources are going into his Mountain Course debut. The approach is deliberately geared toward long-term learning. Stephenson will race exclusively in the Sportbike class, riding the Triumph Daytona 660 – a motorcycle he knows inside out from his career so far.
Preparation has been underway for months. Stephenson plans to build riding experience through selected BSB rounds and track days, and has already visited the Isle of Man multiple times to complete extensive laps on the course. He is working closely with TT Rider Liaison Officers John Barton and Richard “Milky” Quayle, who prepare newcomers for the demands of the 60-kilometer course. Further visits to the island are planned.
Stephenson describes his approach in straightforward terms: “In my first year, I’m hoping to learn the course and build confidence around the Island. I’m going in with no expectations. I just want to enjoy my time on the bike and learn as much as I can.”
The excitement about the legendary Bray Hill section is nonetheless evident. He reports having visited the island numerous times to prepare as best as possible for his first official laps, with further rides alongside Quayle and Barton firmly scheduled. He describes his first ride over Bray Hill as something he is particularly looking forward to.
Sponsors Back Rocket Racing’s First TT Campaign
Behind Rocket Racing’s TT debut stands an established group of sponsors. Pell Plant Hire, Micrometric, Mark Mortgages, Doughty Cakes, DRC Leathers, Slipstream Motorcycles Skegness, Vivid Graphics, and Pete Dalton Silkolene support the team’s first TT project. Team sponsor Micrometric highlights the special nature of the commitment: “We are proud to sponsor Rhys Stephenson as he takes on the legendary Isle of Man TT.”
Schedule for the New Sportbike Class
The 2026 TT Qualifying Week begins on Monday, May 25. Two Sportbike sessions are scheduled for opening day, at 11:00 AM and 2:15 PM. The first-ever Carole Nash Sportbike TT race in the event’s history is set for Tuesday, June 2, at 2:15 PM. The second race follows on Friday, June 5, at 2:00 PM. For Stephenson and his team, this debut is not about a specific result. The focus is on building foundations and the long-term development of both rider and program.
