- A class victory at the Valleys X-Treme Lite Enduro race in Wales proves real-world capability
Since its launch, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has established itself as an affordable and surprisingly capable adventure enduro. The 452cc Sherpa single-cylinder engine, accessible chassis and comparatively low price make it a popular entry point into the world of adventure motorcycles. However, anyone who wants to seriously ride the bike off paved roads will eventually hit the limits of the stock equipment. This is precisely where British Royal Enfield specialist Cooperb Motorcycles from Northamptonshire steps in. The dealer has developed a modular upgrade package called “Phantom” that aims to significantly improve the Himalayan 450’s off-road capability without making any internal engine modifications.

Custom Suspension: Hagon, K-Tech and Individual Setup
The biggest difference from the stock machine is likely the revised suspension. For the rear, buyers can choose between a shock absorber from Hagon or K-Tech. Both options offer adjustability for spring preload and compression damping, with the K-Tech unit additionally featuring rebound adjustment. Regardless of the chosen brand, the spring rate is individually matched to the rider’s weight and intended use.
For those who want to go a step further, a K-Tech ProValve kit is available for the front fork. This system retains the standard open-cartridge design but replaces the internal control valves and needles. The result is noticeably improved damping control and a significantly wider adjustment range without having to replace the entire fork assembly.
More Power From the Sherpa Engine Without Internal Modifications
Cooperb makes no internal changes to the 452cc single-cylinder Sherpa engine. Instead, the dealer addresses both ends of the combustion process. A complete exhaust system from HP Corse replaces the stock unit, while a DNA Combo intake kit improves airflow. Tuning is handled by a FuelX Pro Plus fuel programmer that requires no laptop and offers ten different air-fuel ratio settings. Together, these modifications are designed to optimize throttle response and power delivery.

Larger Tank, Rally Seat and Extended Range
For long off-road stages, Cooperb swaps the standard 17-liter tank for a 23-liter plastic unit from Acerbis. That represents an increase of around 35 percent and should considerably extend range away from fuel stations. Additionally, Royal Enfield’s own rally seat is fitted — a flat bench that offers more freedom of movement when standing up and raises the seat height by 20 millimeters to up to 845 millimeters in the highest setting.
Wheels, Tires and Off-Road Options
In the base configuration, the Phantom retains the stock cross-spoke wheels with tubeless tires. Those seeking greater stability off-road can upgrade to ultralight and particularly robust SM Pro rims, though this requires switching to tube-type tires. Going even further, an 18-inch rear wheel can replace the stock 17-inch unit. This opens up a much wider selection of knobby off-road tires and mousse inserts, as commonly used in enduro racing.

Acerbis Protection Components for Tough Conditions
To keep the mechanicals intact during crashes and rock strikes, a range of protective parts from Acerbis is included in the Phantom package. These include full-wrap handguards, engine case protectors, fork guard tubes, chain sliders, a skid plate and a radiator guard. Short fork gaiters and bar risers from Cooperb themselves, along with Pivot Pegz footpegs, are also part of the package. Additionally, the front brake line has been rerouted for better protection against off-road damage.
Race-Proven Concept: Class Victory in Wales
Cooperb Motorcycles proved in January 2026 that the upgrades work beyond just paper specifications, at the Valleys X-Treme Lite Enduro race in South Wales. The dealer entered three Himalayan 450s equipped with parts of the Phantom package. Jake Edey took the win in the Big Bike Single class on one of the modified machines, impressively demonstrating the real-world effectiveness of the chosen components.

Price and Availability: Not Exactly Cheap, But Customizable
The Phantom package starts at 10,299 GBP (approximately 12,200 euros / 13,100 USD) for the base version and can reach around 12,000 GBP (approximately 14,200 euros / 15,300 USD) in the full specification. For comparison: the standard Himalayan 450 costs between 5,750 and 6,400 GBP (approximately 6,800 to 7,600 euros / 7,300 to 8,100 USD) in the UK depending on the color variant. The premium is therefore considerable, roughly matching the price of the base motorcycle itself. Cooperb Motorcycles delivers completed Phantom machines within England and Wales. The package is modular, allowing buyers to select individual components according to their needs and budget.
