- Design patent filed in India for the Tangent RR unveiled at EICMA 2025
- Fully faired supersport with monocoque subframe
- Possible production version as TVS Apache 450 RR on BMW 450 cc platform
TVS Motor Company is pushing ahead with securing its concept models. Following the design patents already filed in India for the electric eFX 30 and the RTR HyprStunt, the Indian manufacturer has now also filed a patent for the Tangent RR. The motorcycle was first presented as a design study at EICMA in Milan in November 2025, where it caused a stir in the supersport scene.

Aggressive Supersport Design with Racetrack Genes
The patent drawings show a motorcycle that visually barely differs from the version displayed at EICMA. The Tangent RR presents itself as a fully faired supersport with a distinctly low, aerodynamically shaped front end. Instead of a conventional headlight, TVS uses low-mounted LED light units that are seamlessly integrated into the fairing and flanked by large air intakes.
The side fairing stands out with deep cutouts and sculpturally shaped surfaces. Sharp edges and multi-layered body panels give the motorcycle a determined, track-oriented appearance. The tail section is slim and raised, with a split seat and a high-mounted tail piece that underscores the proportions of a purebred racing motorcycle. The patent images also reveal slick tires, further emphasizing the track focus of the concept. 17-inch wheels are expected at both axles.

Monocoque Subframe as Technical Highlight
One of the most striking technical features of the Tangent RR is the monocoque subframe. This construction method is intended to offer several advantages: lower weight, greater stiffness during rapid direction changes, and improved airflow management around the frame area. At the same time, the design contributes to the motorcycle’s distinctive appearance.
The patent suggests high-end suspension components. An upside-down fork appears to be used at the front, with a monoshock in an offset arrangement at the rear. The braking system consists of dual discs up front and a single disc at the rear, with the patent images indicating wave-style brake discs and a radially mounted brake caliper on the front axle. Additional equipment details include clip-on handlebars with a steering damper, a round TFT color display, and a lightweight aluminum swingarm. Two-channel ABS is expected to come as standard.
Possible Production Version on BMW 450 cc Platform
TVS has officially confirmed neither the powertrain nor the platform of the Tangent RR. However, the concept is widely regarded as a possible precursor to a future TVS Apache 450 RR. This model is expected to be based on the new 450 cc platform that TVS developed jointly with BMW. The partnership between the two manufacturers, which began with the 310 cc platform, now extends to the 450 cc segment as well as electric powertrains.
The 450 cc inline twin-cylinder, set to make its debut in the BMW F 450 GS, produces 48 HP (35.3 kW) and delivers torque of 43 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. For use in a sport-oriented motorcycle like the Tangent RR, power output and tuning could be adjusted accordingly.
In terms of electronic rider aids, a comprehensive package would be conceivable for a potential production version: cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, a bidirectional quickshifter, wheelie control, and rear-lift protection. Multiple riding modes and a TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation integration are also within the realm of possibility.

Design Patent Is Not Yet a Production Confirmation
As is typical with design patents, the filing does not mean the motorcycle will actually enter production. A design patent merely protects the external appearance and safeguards the manufacturer against imitation. However, the fact that TVS has filed the Tangent RR for patent protection in India indicates that the concept could be more than a pure show bike, even though concrete production plans remain open.
Should the Tangent RR go into production as the Apache 450 RR, it would become the new flagship of the TVS model range. Potential competitors would include the Aprilia RS 457, the Kawasaki Ninja 500, and the Yamaha R3. BMW is also said to be working on its own faired variant based on the 450 cc platform, which would stand apart with a distinctive design aligned with BMW’s design language.
