Nürburgring Nordschleife: No more free tourist rides for motorcycles from 2025

The Nürburgring has announced extensive changes to the use of the legendary Nordschleife.  From the 2025 season, motorcycles will no longer be able to take part in the regular tourist rides.  The reason for this decision is the high risk of accidents caused by riding together with cars.  Instead, exclusive dates and guided organized training sessions will be offered for motorcyclists.

Safety concerns lead to restructuring

According to an analysis of the Nürburgring, the simultaneous use of the track by motorcycles and cars has repeatedly led to risky situations.  Motorcyclists in particular are exposed to an increased risk due to the lack of crumple zones.  Nürburgring Managing Director Ingo Böder emphasizes: “The safety of all participants is our top priority.  We have carefully analyzed the joint use of the track by cars and motorcycles and decided that a strict separation is necessary.”

As a result, there will no longer be any tourist rides in future where cars and motorcycles are on the track at the same time.  Instead, motorcyclists will be given special time slots and will be accompanied by experienced instructors.

New rules: Guided training sessions and fixed dates

From 2025, motorcycles will only be allowed on the Nordschleife as part of organized training sessions.  All riders will be divided into groups based on different levels of experience – similar to classic track days.

Four exclusive motorcycle dates have been set for the 2025 season:

  • – July 30 and 31, 2025: hosted by the Motorrad Action Team
  • – 13 and 14 August 2025: Organized by the ADAC Doc-Scholl Driver Training

These events are intended to enable riders to experience the challenging circuit under professional guidance.

Grand Prix circuit remains open for motorcycles

Even though the rule change means a major restriction for many motorcyclists, the Nürburgring will not remain completely closed.  The modern Grand Prix circuit will be open to motorcyclists on a total of 38 days in 2025.  This means that at least one alternative will remain, even if it does not have the cult status of the Nordschleife.

Impact on tourism and the motorcycle community

The Nürburgring has long been a popular destination for motorcyclists from all over Europe.  Many took advantage of the tourist rides to experience the famous 20.8-kilometer track on their own.  The new regulations are likely to significantly restrict this spontaneous access.

It remains to be seen whether the new regulation will change the popularity of the Nordschleife among motorcyclists in the long term.  What is certain is that the legendary track will only be accessible on two wheels under strict supervision in future.
