No official MotoGP plans, focus on Baggers series
Harley-Davidson currently has no plans to develop its own MotoGP prototype. Officially, the focus from 2026 onwards will be on participating in six Baggers format races, which will be held as part of the Motorcycle World Championship support program. The Road Glide model is to be used there.
MotoGP as a potential showcase for the US brand
Despite the lack of concrete plans, MotoGP remains an interesting stage for Harley-Davidson. The growing international character of the series and the US orientation of the new rights holders create an attractive environment for a possible entry. There are already comparable examples in MotoGP: KTM uses the GasGas brand as an additional commitment – however, this is an internal approach with direct technical access. Harley-Davidson does not have a comparable constellation, which would make a similar project much more complicated.
Joe Roberts: US hopeful for a possible Harley project
Joe Roberts is regularly at the center of the rumors. The 28-year-old Californian is currently one of the most successful US riders in Grand Prix racing. Starting in 2026, Roberts will complete his third season with the American Racing Team, his fifth overall with the US squad. Two Grand Prix victories in Moto2 underscore his international potential and make him the logical candidate should Harley-Davidson actually realize a MotoGP project.
Assessment and outlook
Whether Harley-Davidson will actually enter MotoGP remains to be seen. The current rumors are primarily an expression of a growing US presence around the series and fuel speculation about the future of the traditional brand in international racing. Should it enter, Joe Roberts is an experienced and patriotic rider who could act as an ambassador for the brand on the big stage. In the current market and spectator strategy, this could be a decisive factor.
